My nephew had gastric bypass on Dec. 12, 2006.  He started out weighing 308.  He now weighs 162.  He can not stop losing.  He has been trying to eat every 3 hours or so.  I am starting to worry about him.  He is 5'9" and 27.  Any advice or ideas?  Thanks so much!!!!

Out of curiosity, which type of surgery did he have?

The "ideal body weight" for a 5'9" male is 160, +/- 10%. He is probably getting close to switching to a maintenance program.  He should make an appointment to see the dietitian affiliated with his surgeon.  Usually a visit at 9 months post and 12 months post are routine and often include labwork. Let him know to do his follow-up visits.  They are important too!
