NOT ENOUGH WEIGHT LOST
I HAD MY GASTRIC GYPASS SURGERY DONE IN MAY 07 I WAS WEIGHING 289 I'VE LOST 45 POUNDS SINCE THEN AND I'M 5'9 MY DOC SAID THAT I'M NOT LOSING ENOUGH WEIGHT. HE ASKED WHAT KINDA OF THINGS THAT I'M EATING AND I TOLD HIM HE SAID THAT I SHOULD BE DRINKING SWEET TEA AND MY SNACK WHEN I GET SWEET TOOTH I USUALLY EAT 100 CALORIE PACK. I WILL BE MAKING AN APPOINTMENT TO SEE THE NUTRTIONSIT THAT I SAW BEFORE THE SURGERY SO THAT I CAN GET HELP WITH MY MEAL PLANS AND GET ON THE RIGHT TRACK.DO YOU HAVE ANY SAMPLE MENU OR WEB SITE WHERE I CASN GET SOME HELP UNTIL THEN
First of all I am amazed that you can drink sweet tea or even eat the 100 calorie packs of snacks. Most of us dump on that much sugar.
I think the sugar is probably the problem. It makes you crave carbs even more. I use only SPLENDA to sweeten anything. I look for products with only Splenda as sweetener.
That said, you don't say how much protein you get in or how many calories you think you eat. I had my surgery April 17th. I eat one cup of plain, nonfat yogurt sweetened with Splenda for breakfast, have one cup (1/2 of a can) of canned soup OR one cup of cottage cheese with a raw tomato for lunch--sometimes 4 ounces of shrimp or imitation crab if they are on sale for lunch. My dinner is usually 2-3 ounces of some meat and a vegetable--sometimes 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes.
The only snack I allow myself is apple slices with a little peanut butter or sugar-free popsicles. If I MUST crunch something, I eat a hard pretzel.
I average 500-600 calories and I have been really working to get my protein to a minimum of 60 grams a day. The more protein you eat the more you will lose.
YOU HAVE TO DRINK YOUR WATER AS WELL! Avoid soda. Coffee is okay if unsweetened or using only Splenda.
I hope this helps. I would suspect low protein and that sugar is the problem.
i DIDN'T LIST IT BECAUSE I'M NOT SURE HOW MUCH PROTEIN I AM SUPPOSE TO HAVE AND THE CALORIE INTAKE MY DOCTOR NEVER INFORMED ME ON WHAT DO DO AFTER THE 3 STAGES. SO THAT IS WHY I'M GOING TO SEE THE NUTRTIONIST AND I'M ASKING FOR SOME ADVISE. WHAT KINDA PROTEIN FOOD DO YOU EAT FOR LUNCH AND DINNER. WHAT DO YOU EAT FOR SWEET TOOTHS
I think you have the right idea in making an appointment with a Registered Dietitian.
I agree with the other writer that you should be drinking low or non-calorie beverages - it is a basic rule of dietiting to never drink your calories!
Also, your choice of "100 calorie" snacks keeps the calories down, but it doesn't provide your body with any nutrition. A better choice would be fruit or a light yogurt which have the same calories, but nutrients like calcium, or vitamins (which ones depends on the type of fruit you choose).
Maybe I'm a little tougher, but I say 3 meals a day and no snacks.
Good luck!
