Carbs
Can someone please send me alist of the "good" carbs verses the "bad" carbs. I am so confused with all of this. I have my surgery on Monday and I don't want to mess this this up before I even get started. I have tried reading and just seem to keep getting more and more confused. I went and got baby food for when I come home and got what I thought was good food but I guess squash and sweet potatoes are not. they don't give you a whole lot of choice in baby food. So someone please help.
Hi. OK...here's the break down in a nutshell.
There are two types of carbs, simple and complex.
Simple carbs are sugar, honey, jams, jellies, fruit juices and white bread.
Complex carbs have FIBER. That's the most important difference. Complex carbs inclue, yams, sweet potatoes, whole grains, oats, fruits and veggies. The benefit of eating a complex carb over a simple one is slowing down the rate in which glucose (sugar) is absorbed. Eating simple carbs results in a sharp rise in blood sugar followed by a rapid drop telling your body that you need to eat again. That's often why people become "junk-food junkies". Eating complex carbs slows down digestion due to the fiber content and therefore you won't experience a drastic change in blood sugar and thus appetite flucuations. Good luck!
