I'm three years out now. My starting weight was 300. I lost 146 pounds so my lowest weight was 154 I have gained about 18-20 pounds and I'd like to take the weight off. I'm having trouble with portion sizes. What portion size should I be eating now? I have trouble with my sugar levels dropping at times and was told by a Dr to eat something small every 4 hours. I get a hiccup right after I eat so from what I’ve been told this means that the last bit of air was expelled from my stomach and I'm full. No more bites after that..... Sometimes I eat and I don't get a hiccup so I stop eating because I’m afraid that I might over eat, then 1 hour goes by and I feel hungry again so I'm not sure what this means. I think I should try and measure all of my food again to see the actual amount that I'm eating, but what is that? I think I can eat between 1 1/2-2 cups of food depending on what it is.  I can't eat much meat but I bet I could eat 2 cups or more of salad. Please help!!! Rachel Petersen

I am having Lap RNY on 12/26/2007 and I am a little worried.  I can't stand milk, yogurt, cottage cheese or anything of the such and I see on here that a lot of people say to eat those for proteins.  Can you suggest other various ways to get in protein?

I am confused, do we not post our questions here? Do we just post them in the main area? Good luck every one! Amy

Please post your questions as a new topic --- we don't always see them when people post to this ... This post was just to alert everyone that we are registered dietitians (RD) - different than nutritionists by about 5 years of college education, and we all have oodles of experience with all forms of WLS. We are currently moderating this board to try to help clear up a lot of the nutrition misinformation out there. Thanks.

I just came home yesterday from the hospital.  I do not think I have the handle yet on what to eat/drink.  Should I get protein drinks to get that in me, or what.  I am feeling a bit over whelmed, right now.

My doctor told me the first week was clear liquids, anything you can see through.  Tea decaf, ice pops, jello, water, crystal light The next week was all liquids, Protien shakes as tolerated. the next week was purree foods,  I started with low carb apple sauce, cottage cheese, pudding, there are sever high protien low carb types out there.   the Next week I started adding foods one at a time.  I made Chicken in the crock pot, so it was so moist and tender it went down well.  But eat slow and chew chew chew.  If something does make you feel sick stop eating it and try it again later.  It is important and helpful to try one new food at a time, this way you can tell if it agrees with you or not.  Remember what agrees with you today might not agree with you in the future and vice a versa.... The first few weeks your pouch is healing, don't worry it gets better...and easier to get Protien in and all your vitiamins .  The fist couple of weeks I did not get much if any protien in, it was not till the third week that I was able to tollerate the shakes and cottage cheese and things.  I had a lot of luck with boxed mashed patotoes and cream of wheat, soupy no butter  and chicken Broth, Unjury makes a good chicken broth powder, you mix it with ho****er I think a cup gives you 21 grams of protien, this is good in the first two weeks... Unjury delivers very quickly so if you don't have any fast delivery works well. If you need site information on it let me know and I will post it...Bernadette

'Mornin all! I need advice on the numbers...carbs, sugar, calories--how much of them should be my target. My original weight was 270.  I am currently floating between 206 and 210 (I don't know WHAT that's all about) I've been here for more than 4 weeks!   Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks,   Ingrid
