not getting enough calories?

I never thought I'd have this problem - but I can't seem to eat enough and wonder if it's healthy to be eating this amount of calories.  I had RNY on 8/6/07. I am eating about 400 calories a day. I have a Dannon Lite n' Fit yogurt for breakfast. About 1 to 2 slices of deli turkey for lunch. Dinner is usually have a Weigh****chers low carb, high protein frozen entree. If I eat more than this, then I end up with a lot more carbs and fat than I am supposed to have. I am trying to keep my protein intake at 45% of my daily calories, but it is very hard to do so and I'm usually at 30%. Today I also had a tablespoon of hummus, 3 crackers, 1 ounce of 50% low fat cheese, and a jello pudding cup. My totals for today were 427 calories, 13 grams of fat, 45 carbs, and 40 grams of protein. What do you think about this? I haven't been using the protein shakes because they have so many cabs and the carbs seem to impact my weight loss great. So far I've lost 28 pounds.

Have you tried anywhey protien powder it is low cal and carbs, unflavored and can be added to your yogurt or any other food. It is not a shake and should not impact your weight loss, it might even help getting in more protien. Sher

I an going to resume the protein drink as my mid morning and mid afternoon snack.  I realize that my exhaustion at the end of the day has a lot to do with this. It's just so frustrating  to have such a slow weight loss. I can't exercise more than a 20 minute walk a day due to very bad knees.

Lori: I think that you are not eating enough calories or protein.  We recommend 75-100 grams of protein per day to avoid a protein deficiency and about 750-800 Calories per day as a general rule.  Please resume your protein shakes as recommended by your surgeon because they are a great boost of protein. We also suggest whey protein shakes or powders such as Atkins, EAS, Designer Whey, etc.  which are mixed with milk or a lactose free milk..all are low carbohydrate.  Of course there are many others out there but the general rule is each protein serving or shake should contain 15-20 grams of protein, be low in sugar < 5 grams per serving and also lowfat.  Please take care! I make shakese on the weekends and freeze them for the week.  I use 2 scoops of protein (vanilla falovered)-46g of protein I 6 oz cup of strawberry Danon Lite and Fit yogurt-5 g or protein 4-6 oz Light Soy Milk-6-8g of protein 4-6 ice cubes 1/4 cup of fresh or frozen berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries) 4 tbs of benefiber Blend it all up, divide it into 2- 8 oz containers. Freeze, take out to thaw, and enjoy.  Each shake has about 30 g of protein, plus you get in your calcium, very low cal (about 190 calories) and fiber.  Try it, I love them.
Back on the road again!!
