Calculating Nutritional Info

As I get closer to my surgery date I am revisiting my favorite cookbooks to see if my favorite vegetarian recipes can be eaten after surgery (or adapted).  My RD told me that in any given meal or snack I should have at least 10+ grams of protein and no more than 10 grams of sugar.  Given the vegetarian lifestyle and the protein issue, most of my cookbooks give some nutritional info including things like protein, carbs, calories, etc...problem is no listing for sugars.  So my question is this, is there any way to calculate the amount of sugars using other nutritional info?  Like a formula or something?  Thanks! ~Bonnie "Waiting for the BCBS gods to shine upon me and grant me surgery approval! There are other websites that can help with analysis based on ingredients. Carbs are carbs - and with cooking, some starches get closer to sugars.  It is hard to give you a specific answer without knowing what foods you are talking about. In your immediate post-op period, you probably won't be eating your favorite recipes.  You  may also develop some un-expected intolerances.  Take it one step at a time.
