Topic: RE: Any fellow CF members out there that had WLS? I'm full of questions in regards to the process
Hey, congrats on getting healthier.  I was in Air Force, ATC, and retired after 21 years.  I selfpayed  last year and am doing great.  I did have a reference from either QR&O's or one of the other orders but I can't get at it anymore that said the military would cover WLS. Try searching the orders.  I am looking at trying to get back into the reserves now and not sure how they will react to my surgery. I am 9 months post op and 100+lbs down from my release weight and so much healthier, hopefully they take that as a plus.  Good Luck.

Mandy, a gal that was at march's info session had her one on one a  week er so ago and seen dr E...she will be having surgery soon. That is fast. so things are moving along with the WLP this year. Just concentrate on doing and learning what they want you to do...get the weight off they want and before you know it you will have your appointment ;) It is frustrating waitin...i waited 5 months for my one on one...but things were slow last year big time.
keep focused n  do and you will be ready for them when u get the word.....then things will really move fast ;)

Hi MAndy,
I was at the session on July 4 as well. It was a lot ot takse in and getting used to the new diet is a *****allenging.  My partner feels guilty eating in front of me. Can't wait for the first 2 weeks to be over. Like you I waited 4 years for the appontment and was thrilled to get the letter.  I guess we'll just have to wait to hear from Diane for our next appointments.
How are you making out so far?

  Morning all ,

I'm a 16 year Canadian Forces member who  has chosen to go ahead with WLS, after multipible deployments in Afghan, Dubai UAE and Haiti I'm finally in a static posting and am ready to make this change in my life. I'm wondering if any pre or post op Mil mbrs can share there experence and there timeframe.

I'm seriously considering self pay.

Any help would be great

Cheers

Hi Cindy,

For what it's worth, MSI refused to cover me to go the NB for lapband.  If that doesn't work out, go to the Capital District Health Authority's webpage (www.cdha.nshealth.ca), under Programs & Services choose Obesity Network, then continue on till you find the referral link.  You can then download that referral form and take it to your doctor.  Make sure your doctor puts all your health problems on the form as that will help determine where on the wait list you will be slotted.  Hope this helps.

Congrats on getting your appointment!!
I attended my info session last year on June 15th....I had my one on one on Nov 4th... my surgery was Dec 6th.
This year info sessions and dates are moving fast. Some people I met at March's info session where I was guest speaker are having their one on ones already and have their surgery dates.

At the info session you will be told what you need to do. You are told to start ASAP.... follow their program and wait for them to send you your appointment for your one on one.....at which time they will look over your food logs see your progress, weight loss etc and assess whether if you  fully understand and are doing what you should....if you are, you will then have the green lite for surgery...usually within a month.  DONT DO AS THEY TELL YOU and you will delay your self for surgery.

Thanks for the info! So they told you at the orientation that you have 6 months to lose the weight? When do they schedule those 6 month follow ups? At the orientation? Or later by mail or phone?

I really appreciate all the input! Hate the unknown!
