I didn't even need to tell a DR in NS that I was going to MX for VSG. I just went.

Well ladies!! I'd want my GP to be onboard with you!. I did have the sleeve in Halifax and had a leak! I went 4 months before DR. GODdard Jr. found the leak. I was diagnosed with a lot of other **** before they found it! I felt I was on my death bed the day he did the scan. Then was sent to Halifax for a 3 month hospital stay. 5 surgeries later and nothing worked. I was sent home with a JP drain and a wound vac for another 4 months!...I left for out West and they removed my appliances and wished me well.. 18 months later my GP here sent me for a leak test and it was healed. My GP from the Valley saw the hell I went through! So, he may be hesitant to sign!

Wish you well!

Hugs

Hi there :-) I live in Sydney NS and I have plans on going to Mexico for the Gastric Sleeve surgery. I spoke to my Dr. about it and he was very skeptical. He is worried about what I would do if I had complications from the surgery. Especially since the closest bariatric surgeon is in Halifax and he has let it be known that he is not going to repair another surgeon's  mistakes. I am not sure what complications would happen , but I haven't heard of too many people that had had any issues. So I guess it's a crap shoot. I told my Dr. that if I don't do something I will die from the "COMPLICATIONS"  associated with obesity. My Dr. says that the Gov. was going to bring in another Bariatric surgeon but now they are not. So, I guess more and more Nova Scotians are going to be travelling to Mexico to have it done just because they have no other option....SAD. I didn't think a Dr. could refuse to see you if you needed their help. I think it's worth the shot to go for it. Good Luck !!

That you ...I wish I could go tomorrow... I wish I did not have to wait for the OK from my Dr.  If he does not help...I guess it is on to plan C...I am just not sure what that plan is... Any suggestions?

Thank you so much.  I am planning on going to Dr. Ponce DeLeon.  I have spoke to Trish and now I need my Dr.'s OK so that I have someone here to do post care.  My ( temporary-fill in)GP refused to sign my "off work " papers but I am moving on to my Internal Med. dr. to see if he will sign the papers.  I laugh that the Dr's will put in the referrals here for Halifax and expect you to wait for 10-15 years but when you do your research and want to go to Mexico they have and issue with it.  I go to my Internal Dr. on Nov 15th and hopefully he will sign the papers...then I will be gone!  Did you go to Mexcio for yours? If so, who did you have?

From working in healthcare I know if you go to emergency the dr will do a referral to a specialist if needed. That specialist cannot refuse your care, especially if it is life or death. If so, the physicians board would be right down their backs and it could cost them their license. But find a reputable surgeon in mexico and you should be fine. No complications with my sleeve there.

Great question!
