Where do I go to get my staples out??

Hi Everyone,

 

I am 6 days post-op, and have just returned home to NS.  My incisions are stapled together though, rather than stitches that just fall out on their own.  So I have a requisition from the surgeon to get them removed, but I have no idea where to go with it!  I'm still in too much pain to get out to my family doctor to ask her.  If anyone has any advice, I'd REALLY appreciate it.  I'm worried...

 

 

I would think they family dr would have those answers, at least call and find out. You will feel much better when you get them out. Not sure why they would use staples anyways but hated them when they used them on my last csection.

Thank you.  I called my family doc, and the receptionist was less than friendly/helpful.  She said I had to come in, which obviously I would if I could.  I'm in so much pain right now...so glad to hear it will feel better once the staples are out.

What area of NS are you in?

Halifax (downtown).

Where is your family dr?

And who did your surgery and where if it wasn't done in Halifax.

Family doc is in the North end, not too-too far but I can barely get up to go to the washroom, let alone get myself to the doctor's office.  Not to mention it takes 2 weeks to get in to see her. :(   My surgeon is Dr. N. Christou in Montreal, who is awesome. 

Just saying skin can form over the staples and it can be more difficult if you leave them in too long. Make the appt and go. I had csections that were tens times the pain of my VSG. They had me up and walking within four hours after the csection. Get on a metro transit bus to get there if you have to, easier they trying to get into a car.

If you have a nurse or a dr as a friend I am sure one of them could come over to take the staples out. Not sure unless you can call von but I think they would need orders from your family dr.

May I ask what is causing the pain? Find it hard to relate because my post op was so easy.

Did you have open surgery or laparscopic?

If you can't get an appointment with your Dr. go to a walk in clinic.I know there is one on Spring Garden Road.

My Doctor removes staples of her patients who have had their bariatric surgeries with Dr. Ellesmere so your family doctor should remove yours but they will do it at a clinic I'm sure.
