Glad to see that everyone is trying to stay the course.  I was down 1 lb this week which is good since I haven't really exercised but have been watching what I'm eating (along with journalling).  I just found out that the YMCA has a special program for people with arthritis so I'm going to give them a call and see what it entails.  Of course now that it's getting colder the thought of getting wet isn't that appealing but it is necessary :)  Hopefully that will help the scale to start moving in the right direction.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Hi Tammy great to see you post! I really dislike the bouncing don't you? Glad to hear you kept with tracking and glad you are getting a walking support group going. Planning is key for me too! It's working and sometimes life just gets exhausting and in the way of my desire to be disciplined in the kitchen. Oatmeal cookies wouldn't last in my house either. Lol tks again for sharing and I am still enjoying my breakie shake and homemade crap cereal. Take care and post again soon. Deb

Good for you for getting back on track, Deb. I assume your pain is getting better so you can get back to exercising.

I've been bouncing back and forth between 174 and 176. I have not been as strict with diet and exercise...and I've still been tracking it so I have that reminder that lack of planning doesn't work. And I shouldn't keep any baking in the house...oatmeal raisin cookies didn't stand a chance around me this past weekend.

It's my last night of class at WMC in Ottawa. I can't believe the 26 week program is over already. i highly recommend this program to anyone in the Ottawa area (or if your area offers the Optifast program to help you lose weight). There's a group of us that will start walking on Tuesdays to keep our momentum going (and the obvious support).

Have a good week!

Hi Win thanks for your reply. It's nice to know someone else that can relate. My husband can't understand how I can GAIN on a diet. It's crazy! The up down of the numbers is frustrating. I really hope they get things sorted out for me soon. I can't keep track of the different Dr's and appts anymore. I am glad that I will be seeing an endocrinologist hoping to get answers and diabetes
Management. I think my thyroid has been wonky for over a year, so may get some answers. Now the 4 to 6 week wait for appt begins. Take care Win hopefully your RA flareup will subside. Deb

I can relate Deb.  It's hard to get the weight under control when other things seem to be affecting it.  I've had a crazy couple of weeks.  Every time my arthritis flares up my body just seems to swell.  The week after I was up .8 I went up another 8 lbs, of course I brought my food journal to the appointment and they asked if I had written everything down.  I told them it wouldn't do me any good not to write everything down and it was just fluid that was the reason for the increase,  I've even kept measurements of my knees to prove to them how swollen they get.  The dr's response was for me to make an appointment to meet with the occupational therapist so that I could increase the amount of exercise I'm doing.  My RA dr changed some of my medications and sure enough the swelling went down and I dropped 11 lbs so now I'm at 286.6.  My food journal was basically the same as it was the week before.  I have really been working at this.  I have changed a lot of my bad habits and have not had any junk food for quite a while.  As frustrating as this is I know I have to keep plugging away at.  Hopefully it will be a while before I have another flare up.

Deb, I hope they get your medications under control and they find ot what is going on.  If it is your thyroid that could explain why it is hard for you to loose weight.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Winifred

Well I've been better. Didn't post hump day weight cause it is climbing yet again! Getting down about it. I decided against weightloss surgery because I Was really uncomfortable with the possible complications and my insides being switched around. When I made this decision I was recovering from a minor surgical precedure that left me with a surgical site open wound infection. I am still recovering from this and it was in March. I have been struggling with diabetes and med changes and just got a call from one specialists office that is now referring me to an endocrinologist. Just had a thyroid ultra sound on Tues and won't get results of that until Wed 17. I feel like a ping pong ball being bounced from Dr to Dr. I still feel that I made the best decision to not have WLS but the non surgical approach is very hard. Guess I just needed to rant a bit. I will check in again soon. Would love to hear updates from others! Deb

Congrats on surviving so many challenges this weekend while on Optifast! I would not have been as brave to host 25 people as you were...I'm so impressed you avoided all temptation.

And a big high 5 (I tried to insert smiley but that doesn't seem to be working for me...froze computer my last 2 attempts...so leaving them out of my post) for being assertive. It is not *****iness. You used to be a pushover..."used to be"...poor sister doesn't like the strong assertive sister anymore. That's her too bad, isn't it? It's tough to be assertive...it's so much easier to please everybody, isn't it. :) Keep that up...great new behaviour!

I think we had a unit that covered that. I'll check my binder. If you don't have something like that, maybe I can scan it and share it with you by email.

BTW...the sugar-free syrups are awesome in Optifast. Starbucks has a sugar-free cinnamon dolce (1L bottle for $9.95) that is awesome in both flavours of shakes. I added a spoonful of instant coffee to shake with 500mL of water (I like a very thin shake) and 1 tbsp of syrup (or 2 pumps if you can get a pump)...you end up having a grande latte or mocha latte. Awesome! :)

Keep up the great work and hold on to your new attitude! (I've got that song going through my head now...I gotta new attitude)

Topic: MADE it through THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!
Hey

So how did everyone's Thanksgiving go??

I had 25 people at my house for dinner and I am on my 3rd week of Shakes only (Optifast 900). I found it hard but I DID IT!!! I cooked for and cleaned up behind 25 people and I DIDNT LAPSE!!!

The hardest part was people nagging at me to come sit at the table. All I wanted to do was hide in the kitchen to stay away from the food and they were all trying to get me to come sit at the table.

It seems like no matter how many times I say to people I DONT want to sit at the table please leave me be they still never get it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The hardest part for me I think is my attitude change - my sister asked my mom when I can eat again because I a B***H now and I am usually the sweet nice pushover one in the family. That really bugged me because I don't want my personality to change but my patience for dumb people is getting thin! Does anyone have any tips for that too? lol

Also on another note to all the CANADIANS out there on shakes - I found a great sit it is buycoffeecanada.com they sell the TORANI sugar free calorie free coffee flavourings that are AMAZING in the shakes. Right now they have the 750 ml bottles for 11.95 and free shipping over 49$. The only problem is some of them habe 1 CARB which is actually equivalent to 4 calories :S so you have to read the bottle!

Ok that is my rant for the day
