hiIm sorry I dont live anywhere near you but I do understand where youre coming from. I never weighed over 500 pounds but I weighed over 400 pounds, so I understand mobility issues in a way maybe a lot of other women here will not. I also suffer from a lot of anxiety so I understand that 2.
I highly encourage you to look into something called Mindfulness. The basic premise is to stop fighting anxiety and go with the flow of it, in doing so the attacks become more and more manageable. Your theory that if you force yourself to go out will make it easier is dead on!
its soooo hard to do when youre embarrassed about how you look and moving hurts, believe me I know.
The great news about being so heavy now is that minimal effort is going to reap huge rewards. You do NOT have to get up and do an hour workout video lol you can hold some soup cans in your hands and stay sitting on your butt and move your arms around and your legs around to music in the privacy of your home.
Its fun! and as long as you're breathing heavier and sweating you're doing amazing things for your body and you will notice changed, quickly.
I was really intimidated at learning how to count calories when I first started im terrible with maths and thought it was gonna be a hugely complicated drama, but it turned out when I calmed down and stopped being so damn scared to try, it wasnt bad at all.
I use fitday.com to track everything I eat in their food log and it tells you how many calories everything has. As long as you eat less calories than you were before, youll lose weight.
another great thing about being as heavy as you are is youll still be able to enjoy a couple good meals a day and still lose weight, so you can do this I promise you can and its not as scary or as painful as you think.
far far far less painful than being 500 pounds.
I'm not a doctor, so Im not able to give medical advise and what Im about to say may be totally wrong, so you might hafta check with a doctor that its safe but I know if I were over 500 pounds right now, I would use fitday to help me keep track and try not to eat more than 1500 calories a day.
youre gonna have to re-train your brain to see portions of food differently so that you can feel satisfied and enjoy a normal plate of food (this is not has hard as you think)
1500 calories is a lot of food (currently I eat 900 a day and i feel fine so you can def do 1500)
honestly, if you limit your calories and dance around to music every day youre going to see huge difference really fast
|good luck!!!
Hi Cassidy!
The hardest thing about losing weight IMHO is changing your mindset and the myths it believes about cost, and time. If you know how to shop, it can be much much cheaper to eat healthy than not to. I used to believe it was more expensive too but it isn't its one of those things we convince ourselves of, so that we dont have to make a change. I'm not judging you, cause ive been there too, im just letting you know and id be happy to help you come with with some affordable recipe ideas.
The other major issue is onvincing ourselves we do not have time. We MAKE time for things we want, new crush? Oh we find time to call, or txt or see them dont we? Exercise is the same, and no you absolutely do not have to be in a gym to lose weight.
I lost 200 pounds without surgery and without a gym membership. I saved money and gained energy,
I kept it off for 7 years too BUT unfortunately, in the last year I gained half of it back and now I am starting from scratch,
The really funny thing is, (not so funny actually) is even though deep down I KNEW it could be cheaper, and I KNEW I could find time, I had convinced myself again that it was expensive, and I had no time.
When you eat less food you're paying less. If you want boxed convenience health food marketed to middle class women you will pay an arm and a leg (and not reap the health benefits of natural whole foods you make from scratch either) When you see the health and cost benefits to eating limited calories of whole foods, you will be amazed at how affordable it is to lose weight.
I save so much money when I am eating properly, I have tons left over for fun stuff like new clothes or makeup, it's win win!
The idea of getting up an hour earlier to work out might seem disgusting but hear me out.
exercise will give you more energy, thats a fact. That extra energy will benefit you greatly, and that hour in the morning wont feel horrible.
Im not gonna lie its going to feel awful the first few weeks, but you know what feels worse?
being fat and upset about it,
diabetes
a heart attack
rejection
etc
if you dont know how to count calories, you need to learn
limit your calories,
move your body> exercise does not have to be boring, I like to dance around to music. Anything that gets your heart rate going and sweat coming out of you is helping!!! think of it as enjoyable movement and it will become easy to keep doing.
best of luck dear.
I jus read about this.....I would love to try this procedure, but I don't think it's available in the U.S. yet. :( I've been scouring the internet for info!
Hi.
I am so sorry to hear you are having a difficult time losing weight. Sometimes things we eat that we think are good for us, are actually preventing us from losing weight. I have tried almost every diet or plan out there, and there has only been one thing that has worked for me. There is a program out there called "whole30" Google it. It's basically taking every type of food out of your diet that may cause allergies. You will learn that something's you might be eating, you have sensitivities to, and they may be what is preventing you from losing the weight. I decided to try it back at the beginning of the year, and I lost a pant size by the end if the first week, then dropped another pant size by the end of week 2. It will take you off all those addictive type foods that make you crave carbs and sugar. It's very strict, but it works! You must stick to it and not go off of it for 30 days though, because it is a detox not a diet!! Once you get past the first two weeks, it gets easier. You will have to eat pretty much all whole foods. Veggies, meats, fish, fruits, and you can have certain nuts. Nothing processed!! Check it out and let me know what you think. There is a book that goes with it called "It starts with food".
Good luck!

Hey there! So I am 20 years old and already pushing 260 lbs and that's being forgiving..I've tried exercising and eating right, but it's very hard being a college student and working full-time. Not to mention I have a desk job, which doesn't really promote a lot of activity. It's hard to afford the right groceries and forget that expensive gym membership. I was hoping to gain some knowledge from you all and tips or ideas on how to loose this weight in natural way. I'm making my goal weight 160 lbs...that's 100 lbs to loose but I'm determined. I can't look int he mirror one more day, or put on another pair of size 18 pants.. If there's anything you can recommend I'd really appreciate it.
I saw this post and I had to respond. I have struggled with my weight since I was a little girl. I am now 39. People used to tell me all the time that the decision to lose weight and keep it off is truly a "lightbulb" moment, but I never believed them. I do now. I was on a ride at an amusement park and my Mother In Law was directly across from me with my daughter. They tried to buckle me in and they just couldnt do it. I saw the look of horror on my husband's Mom's face and I felt disgusted with myself. The very next weekend we attended a BBQ with friends. I had a plate of food and when I went to sit down in the lawn chair it pretty much cracked and I fell in front of everyone. My husband came to my aid, but I could tell he was so embarressed. That was my lightbulb moment.
I found jogging. I found Weigh****chers. I found this website. I lurk all the time and I have been doing it for over 4 years now. I stay focused. I know I have a problem with food and I accept that, but I dont let it control my life anymore. It will be a challenge for me until I leave this Earth and I accept it.
I started out at 331LBS at 5 foot 9. I am now at 208lbs. My goal, which I have yet to reach is 180. I had a tummy tuck 2 years ago from excessive skin.
What works for me? I never have and never will say "I cant" eat something. I eat anything I want WITHIN REASON. For me...if I deny myself it just wont WORK. I tried HUNDREDS of diet plans before and I never stuck to them. So now I just dont DIET. I make the best choices for ME. If I want pizza, I will have A SLICE... I will also ensure I did my workout and weight training that week if I want to splurge with calories. If it is a birthday party and they have cake, I eat it. I then know the next day I will be more mindful of my sugar and carb intake. It is all about balance.
I also believe that the gym is important. Or any form of exercise that you enjoy. AND INCORPORATE WEIGHTS. I can not stress this enough. I am a single Mom now (husband and I are over), and my time is limited. I do weights 5 days a week and hi-intense cardio as well. I would say my sessions are about 45 minutes. FIND THE TIME FOR YOU! I know you can do this.
I get very emotional typing this because when I tell you how hard it was for me to have that lightbulb moment and look at that scale and KNOW I had to lose so much weight, it was OVERWHELMING. I didnt know where to start. I wanted a MAGIC PILL or anything to just take it off quickly so I could be done with it. Well, it was hard work and sometimes that damn scale wouldnt budge an ounce, but I never stopped. I slip up. I AM HUMAN. I gained back 10 lbs and then I work my butt off to drop it again.
You can do this. Since I was 5 years old I have had a weight problem. I loved food like a BFF... I have faith in you
Thanks for the info. The hypnotist said it would take about 21-28 days of listening to the CD before it became permanent. I don't feel any different today, but I have not wanted a sweet. It must have done something. I'm pleasantly surprised at how my desire for choc went down today. I own a bakery and sweet shop, so I am around it all day. I hope this is the answer I have been looking for.
