Topic: RE: Nutrisystem Question
Hi Ashley, I don't know much about Nutrisystem but a friend of mine tried it and she said the portions are tiny and it's expensive. But since you can't eat a lot, it might be right up your alley.
I'm insulin resistant and have to do low carb so I chose Atkins because of the discipline and the allowed foods list taught me what I can eat and plan my menus from that. And I get to EAT! Maybe you can look into it and find a plan that you can learn and maintain for life, which will become second nature to you and then it won't be so expensive and you can lose the weight on your own.
You said you want to do this only until you can focus on yourself again...Sweetie, maintaining your weight loss for the sake of your long term health has got to be the "number one focus in your life"!!!!!!!! Through my weight loss journey I took care of elderly parents, grieved for their loss, went through accident and surgery drama with my husband, and helped care for my sister with cerebral palsy, and built a house. One thing I learned through all of this, the world was not going to come to an end if I took a few extra minutes a day to focus on me and what I was going to eat. The key for me was preparation at all costs. This is more important for you now that you've had the surgery than ever. I pray you find your answer,
Mary

Topic: RE: sitting on the fence
i was scheduled for wls on 4/27/10, on 4/26/10 i called and cancelled. i don't have anything against it (obviously) but i just kept thinking, if i can't change my eating habits then there's no way this will be successful in the long run and by then i might actually hurt myself (now please know, this is only my own personal story and i know there are people who have had great success with the wls) but i just kept thinking i have to learn to eat properly first and if i have to do that anyway, then i might as well try on my own one more time. and i have noticed that since i came so close to the surgery, it has clicked in my head that i need to make this work this time- i know it won't be easy, but nothing worth having ever is!! whatever you decide, i wish you luck!!!

Topic: RE: is it even possible to lose 165 pounds without surgery?
that was very uplifting, thank you!! i do have to force myself to the gym, it's not that i don't like the gym, it's actually not the worst for me, but i live in florida and it's so hot it makes me so tired that the thought of going to work out sometimes makes me want to cry!! but i will make myself do it, like you said, a year will go by whether i work out or not, i might as well do something to make the year better!!

Of couse it is. I was about to have surgery myself. The doc told me to lose 15 pounds to shrink my liver pre-op. I ended up losing 30. (well, its was because my car died, and I had to walk around and take busses, and I was broke and couldnt afford lunch at work everyday, and my job at the time didn't allow us to bring food or go out because it was a high security facility. Luckily those hard times are over).
After that I realized I want to give natural dieting another go and it's been working so far.
You have to be emotionally ready to lose weight. Even if you get the surgery, you may still fail because it doesn't take away the emotional point of food. I know many women who had it...one died because she wouldn't stop eating a lot despite her bypass, one gained tons of weight becuase she kept finding a way to throw down whole cheesesteaks, another one threw up in a waste basket during meetings sometimes because she still ate tons of candy. Only one of my friends who got it, succeeded and she had the lap band.
I have gotten so sick of my weight that one day I woke up and was like, screw this. Put on my shoes and went to the gym,
You don't have to do much to lose weight, you know. Eat right, eat less and workout each day. THATS IT. It's our lack of willpower and motivation that keeps us from losing weight, and nothing else.
In the morning FORCE yourself to the gym. FORCE yourself to eat something small and healthy. It sucks like hell to get the umph to workout, but force it on anyway...because once you get to the gym and you begin working out, this wave of feel good comes over you and it doesn't suck anymore.
From that, you get this huge feeling of motivation and even though you may not have lost a pound yet, you feel ten times better about yourself and you find yourself planning your next workout:)
Look, time is going to pass by whether you lsoe weight or not. I know I dont want to be sitting here another summer totally bummed because I feel like a fat whale walking down the boardwalk, envying the girls in their cute dresses and bathing suits.

Topic: RE: Dining out while eating healthy
I found that you can eat whatever you want, but in moderation.
You want a burger, then get one! Just get a little 99 cent one from McD's...no need for a whopper.
You want some chinese, get it! Split a meal with someone.
You get the pic.
Topic: Nausea after working out?
I am pretty new to my new lifestyle...eating right and working out daily. Lost 5 pounds over the past 2 weeks so I guess Im on the right track.
Anyway, I find that after working out (my usual is 2 miles a day...1 mile in the AM and 1 mile in the PM on a treadmill), I begin to feel a bit nauseous shortly after finishing up.
Anyone have this and if so, why is it and what can I do to prevent it?
Thanks!
~ Tami
