Topic: RE: is it even possible to lose 165 pounds without surgery?
that was very uplifting, thank you!! i do have to force myself to the gym, it's not that i don't like the gym, it's actually not the worst for me, but i live in florida and it's so hot it makes me so tired that the thought of going to work out sometimes makes me want to cry!! but i will make myself do it, like you said, a year will go by whether i work out or not, i might as well do something to make the year better!!

Of couse it is. I was about to have surgery myself. The doc told me to lose 15 pounds to shrink my liver pre-op. I ended up losing 30. (well, its was because my car died, and I had to walk around and take busses, and I was broke and couldnt afford lunch at work everyday, and my job at the time didn't allow us to bring food or go out because it was a high security facility. Luckily those hard times are over).
After that I realized I want to give natural dieting another go and it's been working so far.
You have to be emotionally ready to lose weight. Even if you get the surgery, you may still fail because it doesn't take away the emotional point of food. I know many women who had it...one died because she wouldn't stop eating a lot despite her bypass, one gained tons of weight becuase she kept finding a way to throw down whole cheesesteaks, another one threw up in a waste basket during meetings sometimes because she still ate tons of candy. Only one of my friends who got it, succeeded and she had the lap band.
I have gotten so sick of my weight that one day I woke up and was like, screw this. Put on my shoes and went to the gym,
You don't have to do much to lose weight, you know. Eat right, eat less and workout each day. THATS IT. It's our lack of willpower and motivation that keeps us from losing weight, and nothing else.
In the morning FORCE yourself to the gym. FORCE yourself to eat something small and healthy. It sucks like hell to get the umph to workout, but force it on anyway...because once you get to the gym and you begin working out, this wave of feel good comes over you and it doesn't suck anymore.
From that, you get this huge feeling of motivation and even though you may not have lost a pound yet, you feel ten times better about yourself and you find yourself planning your next workout:)
Look, time is going to pass by whether you lsoe weight or not. I know I dont want to be sitting here another summer totally bummed because I feel like a fat whale walking down the boardwalk, envying the girls in their cute dresses and bathing suits.

Topic: RE: Dining out while eating healthy
I found that you can eat whatever you want, but in moderation.
You want a burger, then get one! Just get a little 99 cent one from McD's...no need for a whopper.
You want some chinese, get it! Split a meal with someone.
You get the pic.
Topic: Nausea after working out?
I am pretty new to my new lifestyle...eating right and working out daily. Lost 5 pounds over the past 2 weeks so I guess Im on the right track.
Anyway, I find that after working out (my usual is 2 miles a day...1 mile in the AM and 1 mile in the PM on a treadmill), I begin to feel a bit nauseous shortly after finishing up.
Anyone have this and if so, why is it and what can I do to prevent it?
Thanks!
~ Tami

Topic: RE: What are you celebrating and proud of? Tues
Im proud of the fact that this morning, I was able to drag myself out of bed, depsite all the 'ill workout later' thoughts running through my head, groggily put my sneakers on head to the gym. One thing I have learned is that if you can get over that inital suckiness of getting started with your daily workouts, you'll find it only sucks for a moment...once your in the middle of working out, that suckiness goes away and you start to feel so wonderful.
Topic: Nutrisystem Question
Hey, I posted this on the surgical board as well since I have had surgery in the past...
I wanted to try nutrisystem to try to get myself back to where I need to be. I had surgery and it was a success but I gained 30lbs back because I started to let life get in the way of me paying attention to me. I lost 10lbs and have been at a standstill for almost 6 months now. It's driving me crazy. I think I need to make some drastic changes.
Has anyone tried nutrisystem recently? Any thoughts on it? I need the strict regimen and the simplicity of having everything there for me until I can fully focus on myself again.
Thanks in advance for your help!!
Ashley

Jody....good luck to you, whatever you decide. I think you're wise if you're having doubts to postpone surgery for a while....or go through the process, if it's a long one and put that time to good use doing it through healthy choices and exercise.
Not sure exactly what your food plan is, but try to increase the amounts of fruits and veggies....that with lean protein and whole grains should show results on the scale. I find that I have to stay away from sugar and white flour to stem my cravings. I know you don't feel like you have much time for exercise, but it sounds like you're making the most of your schedule. When you're at the kids soccer games, can you watch while walking around the field? Don't know how young your little ones are, but maybe kicking a soccer ball around with the ones not playing on the sidelines would give you some extra activity too. Park far away from the stores, take the stairs...all those little lifestyle changes add up to burning extra calories.
I have nothing against WLS, but like everyone mentions....the lifestyle changes have to come no matter what. Might as well give them 100% of your effort while going through the process and make your decision from there.
