Topic: New to this board and needing some motivation to get back on track!
Hello all! I am new to this board, and Im hoping if I keep up with this board that I just might be able to get back on track. I joined this website a couple of years ago when I was in the process of trying to get the Lap Band surgery. I was denied at the last minute due to the fact that I am bipolar. Granted, I ask the surgeon many times if this would prevent me from having the surgery and I was told "oh, no, you wont be, you take your meds and you have letters of recommendation from psychatrist and therapist...you are set to go!" Long story short after all the hard work and a whole lot of money, they denied me :( I recently went to another WLS seminar and decided that I am not ready for WLS. It's a drastic change and I am not sure if I can handle it. I was doing great at the start of the year and lost 20 lbs pretty quickly as I was eating eating better and going to the gym everyday. But the usual happened and work got stressful, my dog died, got a stomach bug, went through a tiny depression cycle and pretty much stopped going to the gym about 6 weeks ago. I really want to get back on track, bc I really enjoyed the gym and the compliments I got were amazing! Even though I had only lost 20 lbs (I need to loose another 120lbs) I had lost so much body fat from exercising so much, I looked like I lost 50lbs! Since I stopped going, I have actaully lost five more pounds but....I look heavier because I lost all that muscle that I built up. I really just need some motivation right now bc I just dont know if I will ever be able to loose this weight. I can't decide whether to do slim fast or weigh****chers. I have an extremely stressful job (I love it tho! I work in a mental hospital with violent teens with special needs) and I am always on the go because I work so much so it's hard to make food. Sorry such a long post, lol. I look forward to posting on here often!

Heather, sometimes I just need to re-group. I start focusing on the basics 1st like sleep and eating. Once I make sure my rest and eating are down tight then I work in the exercise slowly.

Oh Michelle, that's incredible news, well not the migraines and vertigo - but the becoming very healthy. You have accomplished the most important goal - health. I hope you can take the time to truly enjoy this moment. Yes, shedding the rest of the weight will take time, but that's okay when you're healthy. I'm thrilled for you.
Topic: Dr. Visit
I went to the Dr. Last week, I was not looking forward to it because I did not want to get weighed, I was up a few pounds since my last visit so that sucked, but the good news it that I had a complete blood panel done, cholesterol, sugars, thyroid, etc... everything came back in great! the Dr. was very impressed, she actually said my cholesterol was BEAUTIFUL! that made me feel good! she also said my blood pressure was great and was happy with my weight loss! no thyroid problems either, the only thing she said was that I was a little anemic so to supplement with some Iron. I have been having some issues with Vertigo lately, not so much a spinning feeling but more like Im walking on a ship from time to time, she said my sinus' were a little swollen due to allergy season, makes sence, I have also had a flare up with my migraines again, which is no fun at all, I was reading last night that the virtigo can also be part of the migraine, so I was kinda bummed about that, said migraine sufferers can have recurring vertigo indefinately. So I m working through it. The good thing is that when I got the results from the Dr. I realized that I set out to get healthy and lose all my excess weight, after looking at all of my blood results, my Dr. actually said the words
"you are very healthy" to me. It was like a light bulb went on, I have acomplished something huge here, i may not be at my goal weight yet and it may take me some time still to get there, but I have done something really good for myself, it's not all about the number on the scale and I feel good about that!

Hi HollyRachel - I hope you're doing well.
Alas the sound on my laptop is broken so I can't hear this at all.

Topic: RE: Do you think that everyone needs support when shedding weight?
Thanks Toni and Ruth - I'm thinking along the same lines. I'm also looking ahead now towards maintenance and I think I will need to continue using the same support as I use for shedding the weight- which is mainly coming to OH here almost daily and visiting the McDougall forum. I find it helpful to remind myself daily to eat healthy.
So I'm wondering what other people are doing?

I don't know about everyone but I know for me the only times I've been truly successful (reaching a goal weight) was when I had support. This is the first time I have support in place as I learn how to maintain my current weight......I've found support is a good thing. :-)
