Topic: RE: Why I HATE the "buddy" system
I'm kind of on the fence about this one. My very best friend is/was about as overweight as I am. She is however, one of these people who can make up her mind to do something and nothing stops her! She joined WW 1/16/10 and has lost 56lb so far....just has never strayed from the program and exercises like crazy. We have done diets together in the past and seeing her be so dedicated really inspired me. I swore I would never join WW again, but seeing her be so successful has motivated me once again. I'm not able to exercise like she does, and get led astray more easily , but the determination is there this time and I really see myself incorporating a lot of healthy changes in my life. Of course, I started three months after she did but it helps that we're both doing it together and can be supportive of one another as the four of us (hubbies included) go out to eat about once/week.
I also started paying for WW for my daughter, who has about 50lb to lose. She says that feeling that obligation to me to succeed has really inspired her and we are a great support system for one another. She was really a couch potato and is now walking a 5K about 5 days/week.
For me....I think it truly helps to have that support and a little bit of competition to boot. I'm a very competitive person and while I may not lose as quickly as some, it really helps to keep me motivated.

Congratulations Ruth....you did it!!!!
Between the whole fear of flying and piloting a plane and then being unrecognizable by family and friends...you should have brought a film crew and made your own production out of it all. You are an inspiration!
The world just became a much smaller place, huh? Have fun planning your trips to see it all.

Oh, if only I could walk! Bone on bone on my right knee and need to get this weight off before my doc will do a total knee replacement. Water aerobics and bike is about it for me.

Ooooh Peachpie - what a great post. Shedding weight really isn't a good team sport for me either.
I'm wondering if your sister is so gung ho because she is starting the diet and it's new and fresh and she is excited about it - in a short while maybe she will tire of talking about it all the time? Tough spot for you - maybe you can discuss your feelings about this with her? (((HUGS)))

Wow Ruth, I'm so happy for you - that was an amazing challenge for you and you won. I'm also so glad that you can feel and enjoy your accomplishment. Sooooooo - where are you planning to fly to next?
That must have been so much fun dealing with everyone who saw the new and improved Ruth - yes, it's a shame you didn't have a film crew LOL. You have had an amazing journey in shedding your weight.

Oh Peachpie - I'm jealous that you feel comfortable wearing a sleeveless top or bathingsuits. I guess the goal is healthy thinking, not "fat" or "skinny" thinking?

Yes - fat thinking by a fat girl - just when you think you've dealt with it, they pop back into your head again. I don't know if we can completely get rid of this thinking but it is important not to let it make these terrible bad rules for us - of course you can run - look at how well you're doing.
Here's to new healthy thoughts for all of us.

Hi Sherrie - yes I'm so glad I'm recording my weight now and I don't know why I was scared to do it before. I think I was afraid that if I fell off the wagon having concrete evidence in a weight record would be so embarrassing which is silly because it's only a personal record whereas everyone who looks at you can tell if you fell off the wagon and gained weight.
Wow, you went into A-fib from losing a large amount of fluid - that's scary. I'm sad to find out I'm very sensitive to salt too althought clearly not as bad as you. That sucks.
Have you thought about walking as your exercise? It's easy to just go somewhere, like the mall and walking around and eventually build up the amount of time and speed that you spend.
