Hi Jen....glad you found us!  This board can be slow at times, but lots of good support and encouragement and lots of success stories here (like Skylar) and lots of those of us who are still struggling (like me).

Since this center is so popular....why don't you suggest that they start a weekly/monthly/whatever support group for those who would like to participate?  Or maybe for those who wanted the extra support, if you even started your own email/phone chain type of support or a buddy system?  I think it would be helpful for all of you doing the same type of program.

Are you incorporating any type of exercise program?  Maybe you could find some people within the group that could get together for walks, etc?  Meanwhile, this board comes up with lots of good ideas and I've learned a lot from the struggles and successes of others.

Glad to have you join us....we've been slow lately.

I think it's wonderful that you have decided to dig in and tackle this problem before you gained all of your weight back.  You know how easily that can happen!

I have one favorite standby for dinner.  Now that it's summer, I like to marinate chicken breasts or chicken tenders in some FF Italian salad dressing and grill a whole slew of them at once (or if you don't have access to a grill, saute in some FF chicken broth).  Then I put a couple each in ziplock freezer bags and have them handy to slice and put over a great big salad.  They're good to take in your lunch too frozen cause they will thaw by lunch time and be ready to eat.  I love a great big salad in the summer and could eat it every night.  (Sorry....just realized you had the WLS and this may not work for you...not too familiar with your dietary restrictions)

Good luck to you!

Timing is great for me too, Molly!  I only lost .6lb at WW this week and was initially so discouraged.  I'm having a terrible time breaking into the 250's.....haven't been there in about 10 years and I think it must be a setpoint for me and my body is fighting me all the way.

But then I came to realize that I joined WW on 4/26 and since then have LOST almost 20lb.  Now I could have just as easily gained 10 in that time frame (or probably more).  So I have to realize that I'm on the right path and while every day may not be perfect, I'm going in the right direction.

My daughter has lost 15lb since joining about 7 weeks ago and my best friend almost 60 now since January....great motivators!!  I've also gone down a pant size and they are getting roomy now too.  I have to keep thinking positively!!  Any healthy choices we make will help us go in the right direction.

Skylar....so happy for you!  What an accomplishment!  And I think the best part of it all was that you and your hubby have done this together and really completely changed your lifestyle...so many healthy choices.  You continue to be an inspiration!!

Good luck on your plastic surgery consults too....that must be scary.  If I ever get this weight off, I'm not gonna worry about the excess skin...but then I'm in my 60's, so that makes a difference.  You deserve to achieve your dreams and have the body you've worked so hard for.

Hi Molly. I think all of us use food to medicate or numb us so we don't feel "feelings". Maybe this is something to do to with that 5 minutes?

Hi Jen, I didn't have WLS, instead I made huge changes in my diet and lifestyle - permanent ones. I've lost over 170 pounds since I started in November 2008 and I'm actually 17 pounds away from my goal weight. Even as I type this, I have a hard time believing it. I can tell you that it is indeed doable and you can do it too. I also had a couple of very intense and effective sessions with a psychotherapist which I believe made a huge difference.

If you look through some of the older posts you'll find many from Moosie (Ruth) who lost I believe 190 pounds and she has recently finished the last of a series of plastic surgery to get rid of all the excess skin. There had been others since I started coming here who have lost significant amounts. Some of them pop in every once and a while to post.

I hope we can help you find and maintain the motivation. I can't begin to tell you all the things that I can do and the simple pleasures I've enjoyed since I've shed all this weight.

What kind of medical center is this? How are you shedding your weight? Is this something that your regular doctor or perhaps a nurse in the office can help you do by meeting with you more often? What can we do here to help you? You can post questions or start new topics to discuss problems you're having.

You can do it and everyone here can help.

Hi Molly, I wouldn't have thought of getting a heart moniter and using it to push myself. I think that's what I get next when my pedometer is no longer effective at motivating me to move more.

The pedometer also comes with a calories burned but I just ignore it. I like how you cut it in half before counting it.

Look within for your answers.

It is healthy to look within. To find peace and serenity, you must put pride and fear aside and take an honest look at yourself.

Find the courage and resolve to discover yourself. Find out what makes you tick. Find out how you sabotage yourself and why. Learn what really motivates you. Seeking fixes and answers outside of yourself can only take you so far. To achieve fulfillment, you must look within.

Action for the day: Spend five minutes today looking within. Sit quietly and breathe deeply. Ask yourself, "What is it that I need to find and acknowledge within myself to become healthy?"

I also use pedometer but not every day.  I use it when I have to push myself to exercise, on vacations, or when I know it will be hard to squeeze in a good workout.

Another handy tool I use is heart rate monitor.  It is a must when I go to the gym.  I love it and I have been using one for about 8 to 9 years now.  When I was super morbidly obese a doctor wanted me to get one to monitor my heart for a day.  If you don't have one, it makes you do more when you do work out and when you are mixing it up and  want a less intense workout it helps you stay low.  It is better than ones on the machines.  You know calorie counts are not accurate but I always count at least half of my calories as really burned to be on the safe side.

Hi guys,

My name is Jen
I was introduced by a friend of mine to this site, and I found the non-surgical forum today.

I weighed 290 at my highest, and made a decision in January (not the first time) to get serious about losing my excess weight.

This time, I decided to join a medical weight mamagement center to be supervised in my journey, but my goal is to avoid surgery if possible.

So far I have lost 21 pounds, and am attending all of my appointments, but I find there is so much time between appointments that it really does curb motivation, expecially when the weight loss slows. There is huge demand in my city for this clinic, so there is a lot of time between appointments.

I am kind of hoping that by finding other people that need to lose in excess of 100lbs that maybe I'll find the motivation and the support I need to stick to it.
