Our bodies have no clue how well they're designed to feel due to the over process food that we consume today. Incorporating these three easy steps....

hmm..or eat real food in an attempt to give the body what it will need for years to come??

Congrats!! bet that feels wonderful!

I remember getting down to a size 9 dress long ago, is was a cotton lace extravaganza, to the floor, swirly, dressy, with a waist, wore it at Christmas and shocked DH's family

I was the short beyond chubby girl who stole their tall skinny Swede brother ( they were ALL over 6' -sisters included) so they didn't get his attraction to my 'voluptuous' poundage.

I just attended my first OA meeting at 7pm last night, not what I expected (good or bad) it was 5 women, small group, strict following of the AA book and reading step 8...and all the ladies were friends and I have 5 new women to call and learn from so that is great.

I am going to get to a Noon one tomorrow if I can, which is a different format entirely.

I am one of those people who do get inspired by others (like you!) and that helps me kick start or STAY WITH what works for me. Came home at 830 and was wired from he stimulation and new thinking I could not get to sleep til 5am!! hahah

I am so glad I found your post

maybe a noon meeting will let me burn off that energy from so many new people and get some rest...onward!

I decided that if I could lose the weight without surgery and that surgery would NOT help me keep the weight off, then I didn't need surgery, rather a program that could help me work toward a healthy body weight and stay there permanently.

You nailed it... and I think of you often when I think I want to eat (and don't need to), and you are my new role model!

_______

I see such craziness in thinking in all the FB and bariatric discussions. It may be so many younger, uninformed people see surgery, balloon, etc as the best answer, but none of these address the MENTAL..even with some guidance beforehand. Even mature posters bemoan the prep diets for 6 weeks and I wonder how prepared they are for a lifetime of 'denial' they face.

I know two women locally, both given RNY- for free- and both ended up with drug and alcohol abuse after because their mental state was so stressed over never being able to eat a bowl of popcorn, have a soda, etc. again. I saw what I consider neurotic behavior, in general, as they didn't address their food demons beforehand... and now have no option.

I am thinking there should be months more counseling needed, maybe meeting people with issues who share post-op problems, lesson learned, before they can have the surgery.

Maybe what I read on FB is not indicative of the general for post op experience, maybe only the ones with serious issues come online to post.

What convinced me surgery may not be the solution was all the surgeon's videos discussing the massive increase in need for added surgeries, fixes, weight regain, surgical problems, etc..So their workload is increasing as these patients come back and need much more years down the road.

Topic: RE: Gastric Balloon

I joined a balloon FB group after hearing about this as it SOUNDS good...but to me it combines the worst of ANY bariatric for cost, pain, discomfort, problems, for LIMITED weight loss, no permanent change, and the only benefit is no surgery.

The worst it can offer is the ballon breaks and lodges in the intestines requiring immediate surgery, to me this method is as bad the the old 'wired shut jaw' of the 1980s.

People actually GAIN weight pigging out beforehand, so the $5-9K they spent is wasted losing the 15 they just gained for a total of only 20-30 lost.

Balloons come out after 4-6 months, cause MANY difficult daily/hourly issues with vomity, gastric distress, for very little reward ~ 20 loss lost.

What I saw on FB (which may reflect only the more uninformed posters) are people what int quick solution, do NOT even try to change nutrition habits, complain about not being able to eat favorite foods, etc.

NEW balloon ideas are coming- an air filled one, one that dissolves after 4 months.

There is competition from gastric MDs now to surgeons who no longer control the market.

NOT every weight can have this, I believe the BMI must be under 40...I could be wrong, the leader "Obera" is just one product in several other tools and equipment they make for bariatric.

"Data on the use of the system in 125 individuals with BMI 30 to 40 kg/m2 were presented earlier this year at Digestive Disease Week 2015. The participants lost an average of 22 pounds (10%) of their body weight after the balloon had been in place for 6 months and maintained 19 pounds of that weight loss 3 months after it was removed."

Has anyone used the gastric balloon procedure? If so, how were your results?

I just canceled my appointment for the Dr. to start the proceedings for the bypass surgery. My son was very heavy, drank a lot and did a complete transformation...now a body builder....stopped drinking....and he begged me not to do the surgery that I could do it just like he did as he knew exactly how I feel. And I am trusting I have the good sense now to do what I know I need to do...put my money in my pocket and carry on as I have for the past month and losing a little slower but a better way. Your post is inspirational to me....if you've already had the surgery what else are you going to say but you wouldn't go back???? Thanks for your post.

Topic: RE: I Bailed On the VSG

hello, I bailed out after my Dr. bailed on me. I was having vsg due to my diabetes. I had the lap band removed 2.5 years ago after having it for 5 years. I lost 45 lbs and gained back 17 lbs. They felt that I may have had risky complications b/c I'm a light weight already. I was hurt but got over it pretty quickly. WW is going to see me again and I'm aiming to lose big time for health reasons

As someone that when I was 20 yrs old, I was so small, I could read my label as being a single digit! Now that I am in my 40's....how is it that I am double digits? I ate the right food, drank the water, drank the water, to no avail..... and the struggle is "real". Diet after diet, pill after pill, but, I have been so discouraged, embarrassed with myself.

I am trying something totally different now, and I am finally seeing a little light at the end of the tunnel! It is non-surgical, I am not there,,,, I want to go this route. And its monitored by a doctor and I have a personal coach! I think my problem before was what do I eat? How do I eat...and when? How many days do I exercise to really make it work? This is helping with meals, counting calories, and having someone in my corner....don't we all need that! I had to shout this and pass it on.....
