Is it possible that it is working?

Hello All, I have been here a couple of weeks as you know - and believe it or not, it seems that I am actually losing weight at it is working! So many times I have thought about the things that all of you have said and in particular that I should think about my portions like a WLS patient. Wouldnt it be wonderful if I could lose and keep it off this time. We are off to NYC this next week and I am a little concerned. I find that city to be a real eating adventure and once I fall off the wagon, I worry that I will go crazy and put some weight back on. My DH is going with me and hopefully he will help me stay on track. In any case, my clothes are getting slightly loose. Nancy 300/286/150

Hi Nancy, Yes it is possible. As you can see from some of the success stories on here, it is very possible. Losing weight and getting healthy is all part of changing the way your head works. It's about realizing the foods you can't eat, the ones you know that will set you on a binge. It's about realizing that controlling portions and choosing healthy foods that compliment your body instead of harming it is important. By that I mean that eating a hundred calories worth of Hershey's Kisses is not as beneficial as eating a hundred calories worth of protein and vegetables. I used to be scared at the beginning that this would stop working. I am fortunate (I suppose) to have only been successful in losing weight once, and kept off over half of it. I never truly worked on losing weight, which is why I decided against WLS and chose to really try this time. Being honest with myself is a definite priority for me. I am not scared anyone, not at all. I have adopted this way of life and I have control over what I become. Food is no longer important. It doesn't rule my days or my existence. It is possible. As far as going to NYC it is all a matter of choices. There are thousands of places to eat in NYC. I know that I always got so frustrated when I attended something and felt like I couldn't eat. But now I make better choices, and I don't feel guilty afterwards. There is SO much to enjoy in NYC, the food shouldn't be at the top of that list. Have a great time there. Donna
