I had a WHOPPER yesterday!
OK..its not THAT bad. I took the kids for a treat last night and I had not planned on getting anything but at the last minute I got weak but made a conscious decision to NOT let this get the best of me. What did I do?
I ordered a Whopper...NO cheese, NO mayo...No French Fries and No soda.
When I got home I took the burger off of the bun (the bun is 240 calories!! and 44g of carbs) and put the burger, lettuce, onion, pickles, ketchup (just a little) in a Joseph's Oat bran/Wheat Pocket.
So here is the breakdown
Whopper with the fixens (sans mayo) in a Josephs pocket
Calories 330
Fat grams 18g
Carbs 17g
Protein 27g
I had this with my Tall glass of lemon water and still felt a little guilt but so much happier that I did not get carried away. That is so easy to do.
On another note...I am hitting the gym tomorrow for the first time. I expect I might be a little sore but looking forward to it!
Wendy,
Great "compromise" on the Whopper. The longer I am at this the more I realize (and the better I get at it) it is all about making choices. I have found too, that some of the choice making can be a lot of fun and I often feel really good about the trade-offs and food decisions I make.
Best of luck to you on your journey.
Blessings,
Maren
Hi Wendy,
I agree with what Maren said. It's really about making choices. Every single time we set out to eat we have to decide if what we are going to choose is going to be a good choice. In addition, the other really big component is in making our portions smaller. I have learned that with my 13 year old. He has his Mom's food obsession so he loves to eat. I don't have an ounce of junk food in my house so his choices are limited. However, 4 string cheeses is just as bad as a package of cookies!!! So I am teaching him the best I can to curb his portions.
Good luck at the gym!!! You are totally going to love it.

Oh I hear ya about the portions. I am actually at the point where a South Beach or Lean Cuisine meal actually FILLS me up. I don't feel hungry and deprived..just full. My problem last night was I let the groceries get too low and only had my "salad pocket" fixins or "refried beans pie" as I like to call it. I hit the grocery store today and stocked up on the good choices. I have hit a little plateau and I think I felt a little sorry for myself. ALTHOUGH..I did recognize it and felt like I needed a small change and just tried to be smart about it. ..(hence the exercise reality is staring me in the face).
I will say the absolute worse thing for me is BOREDOM when it comes to changing my habits (notice no D word there). Since I do love routine and tend to stick to things I "like" I find that I do not put enough food options in my life. A friend of mine gave me some South Beach recipes so I am looking forward to using them.
Thanks ladies.
OH! And if you have Joseph's Oat/Wheat Pita Pockets in your store..you might want to give them a try. They are AWESOME! Soft and not "fibery" tasting. I even eat them plain when I am having a carb craving. High in protien and low in carbs...no white flour.
