Friday Exercise

This morning - 20 minutes on the treadmill and 25 minutes with trainer. It was not a good session with my trainer today. 1st, I told him I could see a little difference from the exercise. It was easier for me to go up and down some stairs yesterday. So, that was nice, a small noticeable thing for me. Then, he had me sit on the weight bench and just stand up and sit down, keeping my back straight and not using my arms. He wante me to do it 10 times. I could only do it twice. Getting up from a sitting position, without hanging on to something, is almost impossible for me. I just couldn't do it. I felt very embarrassed and it almost put me in tears - though I told myself I was not going to cry in front on him and the other folks there. Anyway, I made it though the rest of the session. I know he didn't do it on purpose, but it was almost like he was making a point that my little bit of progress (stairs) wasn't much of anything becasue I can't even stand up from a sitting position. Not a great start to my day. Karen

Good Morning Karen I understand how embarrassed you were. One thing I learned from my past personal trainer was that he would push my limits to the point I thought I was going to die. He was doing this for me! Some days I would leave my session so disappointed that I couldn't do more than my body would let me. It does get better with time. The little differences now make a big difference in the long run. The day will come when you bounce right off that weight bench, from the seated position, without having to hold onto something. Keep your chin up, it will get better! Focus on what you have accomplished thus far. (((karen))) hope your day goes better!

Karen, did he give you any strokes for seeing an improvement? I'm proud of you for standing up 2 times. That is more than I could have done when I first started this new life of mine. My knees were shot. I couldn't have lowered myself to the bench I would have had to sort of flop/collapse onto it much less get back up without my arms. People that have never struggled with their weight don't understand how it feels physically to carry that extra weight. Most personal trainers I've come across have never had a problem with their weight. I'm not sticking up for him - I think is was a crappy thing to do, but when you can do it 10 times give him whatever gesture you would like to. Any progress is to be celebrated! BRAVO!!!!! Mary
