What is everyone eating???
Hey there folks,
I have an idea of what programs some people are following here, and know their food makeup. But what is everyone else eating?
I will give everyone an idea of my daily routine and perhaps we can share with one another. Sometimes I feel as if I am in a slump and eating all the same stuff. I wouldn't mind getting some decent ideas.
One of the problems I have is eating "fake" cookies and the like. I would rather not eat something that has been a trigger to me, regardless of the sugar content.
So that being said a typical day of mine can go like this:
B - 2 slices turkey bacon, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup of coffee with fat free/sugar free creamer
OR
Weight Control Oatmeal, 1 slice of whole grain oat nut bread, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and a teaspoon of sugar free jam, coffee as above
L - Is more varied. Sometimes a South Beach frozen dinner, sometimes turkey slices and low fat cheddar cheese slices, some kind of fruit and a vegetable of some sort.
D - Again more varied but tends to be a protein of some sort, I am very fond of turkey chili. Perhaps chicken, a vegetable and sometimes wheat pasta or a small sweet potato.
S - I tend to have mozzarella sticks or some fruit
I tend to hover around 800 - 1000 calories a day which I know is not good, that I need to be eating more. Tonight I had salmon which packed in about 450 calories but also loaded with a lot of good stuff. When I work out I try to eat what I burn, not always possible.
I guess I am afraid of food becoming an obsession again, so I figure the less of it I have, the better off I am.
Anyone else??
Donna
Hi Donna,
I tend to eat almost the same thing everyday. But I like that. Also, I read somewhere that the more variety of foods a person has, the more likely they are to overeat. But I do get in all the food groups.
Breakfast - Smoothie made with frozen pineapple, peaches, or mango; 1 oz. lowfat cheese; 3 lowfat Triscuits; LA Lite Bar (chocolate coated protein bar from LA Weight Loss)
Snack - LA Lite Bar
Lunch - Chocolate protein drink, apple or orange
Supper - chicken ****assionally fish or veal); 3 servings of fresh, non-starch vegetables
You might want to check with a doctor or nutritionist about your calorie intake. When I first started LA Weight Loss, I had to actually start eating more on a daily basis ( but probably less on weekends). I've not really counted my calories, but I think I get around 1400 - 1600 calories a day. Be careful of the sodium content in packaged diet foods. I used to eat a WW or Lean Cuisine everyday for lunch. But these are limited on LA Weight Loss. So any limited foods, I just don't eat.

Hi Lynette,
Thank you for your response. I was happy to see what you said about eating the same thing every day. I agree that if I were going to be looking for more variety, I would probably sabotage myself.
I have checked with my doctor about my caloric intake. He told me that as long as I was feeling fine, taking my vitamins and eating at least three meals a day, he had no problem with how many calories I consumed. I know for myself that I was dipping really low in calories and have upped the amount of food I eat at meals. I have really gotten to the point where it takes very very little to make me full anymore.
As far as the South Beach meals I think in five months I have eaten 3 of them!!! I don't do the wraps either, or the cereal bars, although I have eaten a few meal replacement bars when I was on the run on weekends. I prefer whole foods over convenience.
You are doing amazing. You have to let us know when you hit your goal!

I'm an Adkins girl.
B= 2 egg omlette, with cheese, ham
L=boiled egg and a few slices of turkey
D=grilled chicken with mushrooms and onions, broccoli or mixed veggies or a salad.
With this diet, because of the very low carbohydrate content, I tend not to be hungry between meals, and sometimes have to force myself to eat. The carbohydrates are the foods that break down easily, raise the blood sugar, and trigger hunger/cravings for me. So, because my carbohydrate content is so limited, my hunger is also very manageable.
Food obsession is so engrained in me; I think it's engrained in a lot of us. The more time and energy we spend working through our addictions, the better off we are in the long run. I chose Overeaters Anonymous. The addict in me still lives, but day by day, she has less power over my choices. For me, OA was a good place to work on my inner demons. It's an idea I offer to anyone who knows that they have some work to do in thier minds, as they work to take care of their bodies...
Take care,
Jessica
Jessica,
Yes, you are an Atkins girl!! You are the closest to how I eat, aside from South Beach being low fat/low carb. I keep my carbohydrate content to complex carbs such as fruits, vegetables and the occassional whole grain pasta or toast. I haven't ventured into the simple carb arena in almost 5 months now, and I much prefer it that way.
I have to say that my choice to research WLS back in June was the first step to working on my mind. I came a long way when I realized I wanted to do this on my own. I have been to OA as well, and it was very helpful to me. I think though that one really has to be in a place where they can work on their issues before being successful with any weight loss program.
Thank you for responding, it's good to find out what others are eating.

Hi Donna,
I too tend to eat the same thing everyday to try to control my binge eating disease........
B- bran flakes and half of banana
S- 1 oz serving of pretzels and 2 slices of smart beat cheese
L- green salad with hillshire farm turkey or ham slices or wendy's sm chili
D- Grilled chicken pattys- or bake fish
which adds up to about 978 calories........ I tend to not go over 1050.
I know I should be eating between 1200-1400 calories a day also, which I want to eat for weight maintance once I reach goal weight.
15 more pounds to loose to goal.

To be different - if I eat the same thing everyday I get burned out on it, and don't like it any more. I did this with broccoli and cauliflower, and now I don't want to eat them. I need variety, or I go crazy with boredom.
Currently, I have lost 5.4 pounds in the last two weeks from following the points program on Weigh****chers. I tried the Core program, and it just didn't work for me.

Denise,
you are not uncommon in your feelings about variety. I have heard a lot of people say that they can't be on a program that they have to eat the same thing. Unfortunately, if you give me too much variety I tend not to feel as if I am on a weight loss program and I will easily slip back into bad eating habits.
We all have to find out what works for us and it appears that you have. You are doing great, keep up the good work.
Donna
Hi Phyllis,
I feel a little better seeing that there are two of you out there that feel that the less variety they have the more in control they are. I don't binge eat, never did, I am/was a compulsive overeater. I never consumed large quantities of food at one time but I did consume a lot of the totally wrong foods over the course of a day.
During the past 4 1/2 months I have really run the gamut from eating a mere 550 calories to anywhere around 1000. I have been back at the gym now for almost 2 months and I realize that I have to eat more on the days I go to the gym. I can easily burn 350 calories on those nights and if I am only consuming 1000 calories I net 650. I know that putting my body into starvation mode is not helping me, so I force myself on those days to take in more. However, I am truly the most comfortable at around 800-950 calories a day.
I have a few more pounds then you to get to goal, so I haven't given it much thought. I imagine by then I will have cemented into my routine a reasonable way of eating that will help me to maintain.
Good luck on getting to your goal, you'll get there before you know it.
Donna
Hi Donna,
Sorry it took me so long to respond to your post, I haven't been on the computer much lately, just busy.
I too tend to eat the same things day after day and I find I really prefer it that way. Makes life easier and I don't "stress" over content because I am eating unfamiliar things. My typical day consists of:
B - 6oz FF Yogurt w/1/4c of LF granola & a banana OR WC oatmeal & a banana
S - (If I have one) Apple
L - 3oz lean deli meat (most often turkey) 1-2 sl. Jarlsberg Lite Swiss Cheese, 1/2 WW Bagel, a piece of fruit OR carrot sticks
S - (only if I didn't have an AM snack) Apple
D - 4-6oz of chicken (or fish) 1-1&1/2 c mostly green veggies (usually a combination of zucchini, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, Portobella mushrooms, carrots, etc)
S - (No more than a few times a week) Strawberries w/T of Table cream OR 1/2 LF Ice cream OR grapes w/LF Cream Cheese OR a piece of fruit (usually an apple or grapefruit)
That's pretty much it. I don't vary it much and it seems to work well for me. I find I sometimes run into trouble it I start making a lot of changes. I am definitely better with routine and I rarely get bored with it. If we go out to eat we generally go to one of 4 or 5 places that we like and I have things or each menu that I like that meet my needs. I like that because I don't actually have to look at the menu and be tempted by something I don't need to be eating right now.
Sorry this got so long! I sometimes tend to ramble.
Blessings,
Maren
