Two-year anniversary
This is a slightly longer version of my post on the main message board:
On October 13, 2003, I began my current diet and exercise plan.
I no longer take meds for diabetes, and I no longer use a CPAP machine when I sleep. I have less pain, more energy, sleep better and my mood is better.
I transformed from enduring a sedentary and hermetic existence to enjoying a healthy, active lifestyle. I have been able to resume activities I had given up, including traveling abroad and attending musical theater and sporting events.
In two years of exercising, I have:
Walked 605 miles
Biked (on stationary bike) 844 miles
Elliptically glided 229 miles
Taken 116 hours of aerobics classes
Lifted 604,110 pounds
(Stats compiled on FitLinxx.com)
This has been and continues to be a Herculean task. Exercising as much as two hours daily, combined with constant deprivation of the foods I carve in the quantities I am able to consume, makes for a difficult way of living.
But, the benefits make the struggle worthwhile. It is not hyperbole to say I have been reborn.
I did this solely to improve my health and quality of life. While I keep track of my weight and jeans size, I don't much care about those things. I care about being healthy and able to live a full life.
But I did make nod to vanity: On Aug. 31, I had a tummy tuck.
I'm eager to see what the next two years bring.
Best of luck.
