MAY CANCEL SURGERY...AGAIN
Karma, I did not exactly decide against WLS. Stuff kept getting in the way, and for reasons I don't completely understand, my diet and exercise plan worked this time when it had not many times before.
I believe that knowledge is power, and while I cannot advise anyone to go against her gut feelings, perhaps you would be more calm about whatever decision you make by getting -- and understanding -- the facts.
One fact is that 95 percent of people who lose weight with diet and exercise gain it back, usually within two years.
Another fact that most people who undergo gastric bypass do not die. The mortality rate is about than one death in 200 surgeries. Sadly, two men who frequented this site died after surgery within the past two weeks, so that can make the mortality rate seem higher.
Regardless of what method one choses, losing a massive amount of weight and keeping it off requires a lifelong commitment to following a strict diet and getting a lot of exercise nearly every day. Weight loss surgery can help people stick with a diet, but that "tool" can lose its effectiveness over time.
And I continue to be alarmed at how many post-ops on this site simply refuse to exercise.
Best of luck.

I just had surgery with no complications. It was no worse than when i got my gallbladder removed.I had surgery Wed. and that Mon. I was grocery shopping.I needed this tool because I did not like feeling hungry. Now I eat to live not live to eat.Wls has helped me alot to get over my obsession with eating.Any surgery you get may or may not cause complications.I am glad I had wls.It is not as scary as you think.Matter a fact my surgery was a piece of cake.Oh, I read that those with gastric bypass extend their life span.
