VSG on 10/09/12
Hi everyone.. I am in a sort of holding pattern now since I found out today that definitely I am not having my VSG in January as previously planned. I have an ulcer and it needs to be taken care of first. So I am 'stuck' in waiting until end of April for a variety of reasons including my availability and the surgeon's. So for the next 4.5 months I am non surgical. During the last year I lost some 30 lbs just being careful. This is the resolution time of year so leet me make a few now... at least for the next 4.5 months:

1. I will drink 1.5 litres of water every day
2. I will exercise at least 3 times a week
3. I will continue to stick to what has worked - ie. low carb
4. I will not beat myself up if I fall off the wagon once in a while
5. I will get the ulcer sorted out
6. I will stay off of cigarettes (quit on 21 November and still holding strong)
7. Wine (one glass now and then!) is part of my diet for life, with or without surgery
8. I will take my meds and vitamins
9. I will have one protein shake a day instead of a meal
10. I will continue to avoid anything white (rice, pasta, bread, flour, potato)

The list is too long...

but I will try.

Also.. and really without too much faith in it but what the heck.. I am going to try hypnosis. I have always been curious about that and let's see now what it can or cannot do!

Happy holidays everyone!

Those sound like good goals. So have you though about doing the "post op" diet? Eat like you already had the surgery. You could still keep it low carb but maybe do the 3oz protein 1oz something else kind of thing. This is what I have been doing and it is working really good. I figured if it is healthy after surgery then why not without surgery. I figured out that my calorie intake runs about 1000 cal a day eating like that. Also, congrats on the stopping smoking. That is hard to do. My mom had to have a small stroke to be able to do that. I wish you luck next year and maybe if you lose enough weight you might not have to have surgery! Have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

You are doing so well at losing weight. You only weigh 191 pounds--will they do surgery on you at that low weight?

I tried hypnosis. Six months, $1250. I quit going after a few weeks and (surprise) no weight loss for me. Mostly I would go in and watch videos. One personal hypnosis session, a couple classes.

I still think hypnosis could work, with an experienced hypnotist.

Yes, the surgery has already been approved - I was a bit heavier then, and they don't take the approval back. I am still around 38 BMI with two major co morbidities. If it weren't for the ulcer I would have had the surgery on 12 january.
I am trying hypnosis at a clinic in Spain. I live close by. It has a website - gastric mind band.com i think. Have a look. Tell me what u think!

I do think the sleeve is the best of the bunch. No rearranging of small intestine, you keep the pyloric valve. I'll look at  that website a bit later (just had Christmas with family).  Like I said I think hypnosis can work, I believe in it. It depends on how good the hypnotist is and how receptive you are. I was receptive, just what they said did not influence me. If I was convinced by a hypnotist that I would prefer veggies and protein, not like carbs anymore, not like fast foods, be full after a small amount, and love to exercise--well, then hypnosis would work for me.

I did go to the website, gmband, I think, and am really impressed. And it is just up the street from you! Are you doing it now, or are you going to start it? I see they have places in U.S. but you have
Martin and Marion, the originators. I am skeptical of the efficacy of the other therapists. I went to a chain here and they have hypnotists but they did not do it for me. What does it take to call yourself a hypnotist?? It is not exactly a proven science.
