Before I eat anything. I always look at the nutrient label or calorie label whatever it is called. So I'm always aware of what is in it. It became a habit 3 years ago.

It just goes to show that we have to be aware of EVERYTHING we are putting in our mouths.  Read the label and then pass on anything that has had the life processed out of it!

I'm embarrassed to say that in the past I ate more than my fair share of some those foods. Years ago DH and I were addicted to Entenmenn's cakes and cookies - I don't even know why, they didn't even taste all that good. And they were cheap, always on sale.

Now there is a disease Orthorexia for being and obsessive label reader - but we have to be obsessive because this junk is everywhere.

Back in the dark ages, when I was a kid the only thing you could buy at a gasoline station might be some stale nuts or gum from those candy machines. There was no prepared take away food at the grocery store and the frozen food aisle was small because all it had was basic frozen veggies without sauce and meat and well junky chemicals. There were no vending machines on the street corners and very few drive in restaurants - no McDonalds at all in my neck of the woods. Now it's everywhere - schools sell food for fundraisers, so called drug stores have aisles full of food even if they are located next door to a supermarket. And the sad thing is very little of this being sold is food that our grandmothers would recognize.

Sorry for my ranting,

LOL on the Entenmenns.........My family kept them in business for many, many years.  A habit we all learned from my parents.

Hey, never heard of Orthorexia so I just did a quick look up.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthorexia_nervosa   GEEZ, I thought by losing all this weight and getting healthy I got rid of all my diseases....now I have this!!!!!!!!!!!!????????     Guess I'll take this over anything else.  Thanks for the edumacation

Reading labels I sometimes can't even pronounce the ingredients never mind recognize them....

~And the sad thing is very little of this being sold is food that our grandmothers would recognize.~

Another sad thing is that our digestive systems don't even recognize them, either.
