Doctor may recommend WLS
I'm losing weight without surgery. I recently was informed by a liver specialist that my liver enzymes were high and a liver biopsy will be needed. This doctor may recommend WLS after the results of the biopsy are in. I don't want to have the surgery. I feel that I'm losing weight fast enough under another physican's care. Any thoughts or comments will be appreciated. Thanks

I would say don't be pressured into doing anything you are not 100% comfortable with. Some WLS are irreversible or, at least, very difficult to reverse. So take your time, do all your research and get all the information you can about your liver et****il you are completely satisfied about what is the correct course of action for you and you are informed of all your options. Get on the internet, go to the library for information and ask tons of questions at the doctors office. Good luck.

I'm sorry your liver enzymes are high and it's good that you're getting them checked out. However I'm not certain they will suggest WLS. The high protein diet that people follow for WLS can be very hard on the liver - I would ask the specialist about this. Tell him you're being followed by another physician helping you lose weight and that you are happy with that plan. If you can lose your excess weight without surgery - well that is a million times better for your body, including your liver. If the specialist wants you to lose weight quickly - ask about following a medically supervised very low calorie diet instead of surgery.
Good luck and I hope you come back and post what happens.
