What is your pleasure??

Daily Inspiration for April 1, 2010

Use all five senses.

Many people who have WLS focus primarily on the sense of taste for pleasure and soothing. Maybe you know, in theory, other things would feel good, but food is such an easy and familiar source of comfort. Finding a new source of pleasure, and getting as much pleasure from it as you do from eating, will take time, effort, and open mindedness.

When you accept that food cannot be your only source of comfort, you make room for other pleasurable experiences. You can enjoy a delicious massage, listen to motivating music, appreciate a beautiful painting, or relax with aroma therapies.

Action for the day: Today, think about other pleasures in life besides food. Try something enjoyable that involves a sense other than taste. Don't be afraid to take a risk.

Just curious......are you a WLS person or are you a Non-surgery person?

LOL!  That is a good question - just curious..... I had surgery in 2004 and was considering another surgery or just doing it on my own to lose 80 lbs I gained out of 300 i lost from the RNY.  and I never reached my goal because I needed to lose 400 pounds to do that.

So I am at a crossroads as to whether or not I want to lose 180 on my own or do another RNY.  That is the reason I read your posts frequently -- .  I also feel many of the post on NAWLS.com apply to any one with a weight / obesity issue.

I agree much if not most of the weight loss journey is the same whether you have WLS or not.
We all share the same/similar struggles and challenges.
We all like to eat
We eat too much or the wrong foods
We eat too often
We don't exercise enough or properly

The WLS is a "tool" similar to the way WW or Jenny Craig (etc) are tools to lose weight.  I personally think the most important thing whether or not anyone has surgery is that they make life changes.....I don't believe anyone can continue to eat McDonald's sausage and eggs for breakfasts, hot dogs/pizza/fried burgers for lunch and dinner, snack on cakes/candy/chips everyday and expect to keep all the weight off.  If you don't learn what is healthy and what is not it will just be temporary.

I'm sure you can do it on your own if you really make the commitment to yourself to do it.  For me I had to finally get to the point that I was my own priority...I was important to myself for the first time in my life....
Anyhow....I can go on and on but won't bore everyone.

Congratulations on 189 pounds lost too!  Keep up the good work!!
Thanks for the support Ruth! It is appreciated.  I am sure we will be chatting more because I just found this forum this week and since that is what I am leaning towards NO more surgery I come here.

I already know the things you mentioned, but it never hurts me to hear it over and over again.  That is why I am posting here now. Funny you mention Mickey D's because fast and fried foods is my trigger food.

I took off 3 years and thought I had it made.  Started back posting here March 4th or 5th and the best thing I could have did.  I have lost 8 pounds so far.  I think posting here helps me stay mindful when I don't want to do so.
Hugs,
Molly

COOL!  I'd love to chat more with you.

I think posting is a form of "accountability"....you put your goal out here and let others know what you want and that you need support (like we all do).
Accountability comes in many forms....getting on the scale at WW, posting on a forum, etc...for me I weight myself every Sat morning and told my number 1 support person the result every week...good or bad.  Just knowing I had to "report in" was enough to keep me focused during the extra difficult or challenging times.

Looking forward to getting to know you better and to hearing about your success as you melt away.

Hi Molly, I agree with everything Moosie said - and she said it so well. LOL

I think it's great that you are working now to shed more weight. Have you found new sources of pleasure to replace food? Especially when you use it to self medicate?
