Introducing Myself..... Long, but hey!
Hi Everyone:
I have been lingering around the forums for a few days before I finally decided to join:
My name is Lisa, and I am a 24 year old stay at home Mom and Navy Wife. I have been married for almost 5 years (next month) and have two beautiful daughters (1 & 2) who are my world. I have been making a lot of excuses for myself, and my weight, but about a month ago, I decided to get serious. I do NOT want to be skinny, I want to be healthy.
Here are my excuses that I finally have decided to throw out the window:
1: Having 2 kids less than a year apart have taken a toll on my body. which they have, but I have been overweight for nearly 8 years already. And as I feed them 3 meals, and 2 snacks a day, I often find myself snacking on what they are eating.
2. I do not have the time to exercise since I am a stay at home mom. I am trying to get at least a half hour in 3 days a week and will dedicate my weekends to exercising.
3. I cannot afford to the costs associated with dieting (meal replacements, and whatnot)
4. It's in my genes. My grandparents have heart disease, my dad is obese, and had a heart attack at 36 (survived, but no major life styles) and still has heart disease. My sister, who i am trying to get to join is also overweight as well as myself. I know genetics do play a role, but we are the ones that have to change it.
5. We were raised on fried foods and processed food. What bothers me the most about that is that I see myself making the same choices for my children, and I want to change that. Don't get me wrong, we always ate our vegetables, but it still doesn't help.....
Here's what I am doing to change:
I have been to a weight loss clinic, and I received a prescription for Adipex (phentermine) It's an appetite supressent & diuretic, for those who don't know. My close friend has lost about 70 pounds this way, and has kept it off. I know that it is a weak choice, but I figured I have to start somewhere, until I can find the willpower to do this all on my own. I get weighed in weekly, and do two very high protein shakes a day, at 200 calories each. Then I consume a 800 calorie dinner, which makes my total daily intake about 1,200 calories. I have also started pilates, even though I am not on a strict regiment with that as I would like to be. Since the weather is getting nicer, I am spending a lot of time with my kids and we walk the long way to the park. I have increased my daily water intake, cut out soda (except for the occasional diet soda) I put Splenda in my coffee instead of the usual 3 teaspoons of sugar. I started measuring my foods out, and learned to chew slower to listen to my bodie's "full hint" I have an amazing sister who supports me in my choice to become healthier. My husband is supportive, but not as much as I would like. I am an emotional eater, and that is something that needs to be changed.
I need to kick myself to get my butt to the gym. I wish I had more motivation to do it, but again, it seems like something I need to change.
I started at 241 pounds (Feb 26th). Right now, I am about 226 or so. I have mini goals. Like I would like to be 200 pounds by summer, and 180 pounds by Christmas. My goal is about 155-160, hopefully by next summer or the following Christmas. Like I said, I want to be healthy.
I wish everyone luck on their weight loss journey, and hope to find the support that I need here, as well as offer others support the best I can.

Moosie: I see your sig, and get so excited, just knowing that there are people that can do it. Congrats!
I received a pamphlet stating that my insurance covers the Lap-Band, and all I had to do was gain another 10 or so pounds to qualify. So tempting as gaining weight is a lot easier than losing it! I decided not to, and although I am taking the prescription Adipex, I needed something to kick me, and get me motivated. I know some might not agree, but losing the first 15 pounds in less than a month has definatley made me set my mind on doing this right. Like I said, I KNOW it's a weak decision, but had I just reduced my calories, and started exercising, I probably would not have had the motivation that I do now.

Welcome! I just came back here myself but use to hang out here a couple years ago- it was a VERY busy/moving forum at that time!
Sounds like you are on the right track! I don;t see anything wrong with using meds to get a good kick-start. As long as they are under a Drs watchful eye and you are healthy enough to work with it! You are doing the right thing by working on portions and exersize etc!
I joined WW a couple years ago-(online) and dropped off a few months later- just started up again on 2/22 and have lost 11/12 pounds in the past 2 weeks. I am THRILLED to feel & see it working! It feels so good to be eating right and I've gone down one full pant size :) AND- my BMI has gone down TWO points in that time :) I *LOVE* counting my BMI :) That is better to me than counting the pounds LOL
Anyhow- keep posting! Let us know how your doing!!

Hi Luv,
Welcome!
Man did some of your excuses sound familiar to me! Good for recognizing they are nothing more than excuses... we can be our own roadblock to success so much of the time!
I've never heard of the drug you mentioned- is this a hospital or Dr supervised plan? When you say clinic I picture some shady-type basement /back door office. But then i have an overactive imagination.
Have you tried exercise DVD's @ home? I used to live by those- Leslie Sandsone was a favorite- fairly easy but effective.
Remember to make some goals non-weight loss related, like exercise goals, it'll give you more successes to revel in!
Good Luck!!

Hi Luv and welcome,
Have you thought about walking for exercise - that's what I do and it's remarkable how good an exercise it can be? And with kids it can be done - and is a good way to teach your kids a good habit. You're already walking to the park the long way - so that's great - just add more. And maybe short races with the kids at the park for fun?
My father and all his brothers died young from heart disease so I completely understand how important it is not to allow those genetic influences to take hold in your body. I strongly suggest you read Dr. Caldwell Esselstyne's book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease. His diet completely reverses the most serious blocked arteries in patients who were too far gone to have heart bypass or stents placed in their hearts - he has followed his patients for 20 years now and they are all living whereas the control group died shortly after the study eating the American Heart Associations diet. We were just shocked to discover that one of the people he talked about in his book is someone DH knows??? Small world! Food can be very powerful-and you will lose lots of weight on his diet - which is basically the same as the McDougall diet I'm on. I don't worry about heart disease any more because my cholesterol is so low and my blood pressure is normal and all the other markers they use are completely normal. Basically I dumped ALL processed foods - every single one of them and I've lost my addictions and compulsion to eat mindlessly - it's the processed food that is killing us.
It's great to have a wonderful support system like your family and we can support each other here too - so if you fall off the wagon, keep posting and we'll kick your butt until you jump back on. I like your goals - sounds very doable and at a healthy rate.
