Hello is anybody out there???   I'm feeling kind of lonely here........

So far the only thing I'm proud of this morning is that I remembered to change my clocks before I went to bed so I didn't oversleep.   I plan on doing a power walk with my dog later just before the sun goes down...I'll feel proud if I do it.  To keep myself accountable I'll try to remember to come back here and update to let you know if I actually did it or not.

Ok...hope to hear from others
Have a great day!!

I've been having trouble with the site since Thursday. Every time I try and press reply nothing happens. I've even tried different browsers. I've been with you in spirit.

I've changed three clocks so far- the rest will stay wrong for a good while as I don't recall how to get through menu's to change them. Remember to change the batteries in your smoke detector too!!

The thing I've done today to make myself proud is when I went shopping- I spent more time in the produce section thinking up what I could buy to enhance my fruit vegetable intake. Also I decided to read labels in the cereal aisle and try a different type of hot cereal that offered a lot more fiber per serving. I actually liked it and couldn;t finish my usual amount b/c i was full. Go figure!.

Hi Peach!

FYI - I'm making mini apple pies today.....if I had some peaches I might give it try...lol

Reading labels in the groceries is such a "good thing"!  I find once I know what I'm going to eat I often don't want it anymore because it's not worth the calories sometimes.  Education/knowledge is so empowering!!  GOOD FOR YOU...keep on reading...   the only down side is I never seem to spend less than 1 hour in the store even for a "short list" of items....on a BIG shopping day we've been there 2 - 2.5 hours.  LOL!  but I get a good amount of steps in that way too.......... always looking for the silver lining.

Have a great afternoon!

You know- I've never even had peach pie. I'm not big on pies in general- though I do make a great sweet potato pie. I chose than handle cause its easy.. and I can have a variety among the different online boards I'm on..some places I'm peachpie, some places apple pie, some places blueberry pie

Hope your mini pies came out OK.

I was very happy to find this thread. I have been reading this site for a while trying to learn/talk myself into weight loss surgery.
My doctors feel it is right for me but I'm having a hard time with the idea. I'm trying to lose weight to prove to myself I can/can't do it and also to just be at a better weight if I do come to to that decision.
I have been logging my food on the spark website for the last couple of months and am doing pretty good.  I have had a few bad days I will admit but I'm making it a point to log the food on those days anyway. I come here and read the main message board to keep learning about my options and to stay motivated.  I have also become involved in OA which is helping a great deal.

HI!
Welcome to the Non-surgery forum.

I'm not "anti" surgery but I did lose close to 190 (189.9) lbs by eating healthy and exercising.  I did start looking into surgery options in 2007 and told myself I'd give it one last try....I did and I DID IT!!!

I checked out the "spark" website too....the threads confuse me there...lol.

Couple things I'd suggest that might help you with losing....
Are you eating enough calories?  You can't starve yourself.
Are you moving?  Gotta exercise....it helps burn fat, build muscle (which burns more fat) and is so good for your heart!
You said you are tracking your food...that's great....I still write it down every day....every morsel!
Are you drinking enough water?  I mean just plain water....

I have an out line of what I did out on my my blog if you want to check it out.  If you can't see it (you might have to be a friend....I've got to see if I can change that setting I thought I had it open to everyone).

Best wishes on your weight loss journey and your decision.
Let me know if you want to chat about losing weight without surgery....

Welcome MrsQ! I'm kind of in the same position as you. I'm researching WLS but am not fond of the idea at all. I'm kind of using the information I find to to stay on track.

I tried spark people for a while but I've found its just too tedious for me to log on a computer to log every last M&m I may eat.  (Same for me with any online diet/exrercise site...not just spark people). I have a food journal I carry around- that works better for me.

Good for tracking everything- even the bad days. I've been forcing myself to do that too. Its hard to be that honest w/ yourself. Good luck- keep it going!

Hi Ruth, boy reading your post inspired me today. I was feeling really lazy, even had a nice nap and thought I'd skip my walk in the mall today. Then I read your post and realized I had to get my walk - so off I went and I feel so much better because I did it. Thankgoodness your comment of apple pie isn't inspiring me to eat pies LOL Then I'd be in real trouble.

Peachpie - there is some great label reading info being posted in Whole Food stores - next time you're near one check in and see if your store has its posters etc. You'll be shocked at how little you really know about reading labels - and how manufacturers use them to fool us. I used to spend a lot of time reading labels but lately most of what I buy doesn't come in boxes or cans which makes shopping a lot easier.

We welcome all newbies, even if you're considering WLS. I'm like Ruth, I was going through the process and decided to give diet one more try. I've lost 155 pounds now and have about 45 left to go. I know that I will keep my weight off because I've completely changed my lifestyle and no longer eat any of the food that made me obese. I realize that for me WLS would have been a big mistake because I would have kept eating the wrong food - just less of it so I would have been someone who gained the weight back after losing. Either way you have to make serious changes to keep it off. You can use this time wisely to be working on making these changes now and you may find like Ruth and I that you don't need surgery - or that you do.

You know I've only ever bought something out of whole foods once. a Loaf of bread..and it molded SOOO fast I got turned off from shopping there. I've been interested in trying there again- but I'd need some serious time to "browse" and I never truly get that with a 5&7 year old on tow.

I'd be curious to see what those sign say about labels.. I like to think I'm pretty savvy about reading them- but manufacturers are always looking for new ways to market there stuff.
