Sometimes I feel like giving up.....

Hello O.H. Family:
I'm new at this site but I feel I can vent out.  I need to seriously lose weight and not really sold out on the option of bariatric or the band thing.  Always been heavy all my life but now I'm older and need more help to get going.  I start  excercising for a while then I get bored and stop.  I know my mind goes back and forth and sometimes slips into a type of depression.  My sister recommended this site to me and I'm glad there are others out in this world who may understand.

God bless you and thanks for responding.

I know it can be very hard to stay motivated and when I first started the thought of wanting to give up was very real for me. What really helped me was when I started seeing the results, the more weight I lost the more motivated I became to loose even more. Also, while I did set my first big goal which was getting to 150 (which I still haven't reached just yet). I also set mini goals along the way and as I would achieve them that also motivated me really well.  My first big "mini" goal was to get to 199 and when I reached it again that was such a huge motivating factor for me.

I too get very bored very easily with exercise, so I go ahead and change my exercise routine up very often. I think this can be a very good thing.

Another important thing is to know you're going to have bad days and don't let them get you down or discouraged. The important thing when you have a bad day is to not be too hard on yourself and realize that tomorrow is a new day to start over.

Like Johnita, I set myself lots of little goals because looking at the fact I had to lose 200 pounds was overwhelming.

For exercise, find something that you really like - I became a mall walker and I enjoy looking in the store windows and what the shoppers are wearing etc. I also don't worry about the weather since it's indoor. Years ago I used to go to an aerobic exercise class held in the local high school gym with friends.

Seek some professional help for your depression - diet and exercise will definitely help but you might consider medication of psychotherapy to get you over this big hump of making positive changes in your life. You can do it it's just hard to get going so look for all the positive support you can find.

Thanks Skylar, I respect what you're saying.  The depression thing I feel at times is probably the pitty party I give myself.  I'm admitting to this to you, therefore I will get my deliverance.  I'm just so tired of starting and stopping but realize that's LIFE and as long as I keep trying, I'm bound to succeed.  That's the ittle pep talk I give myself when I get too low.  On that note, I'm making small changes it's just so hard to stay focus doing this without a buddy system.  But hey, I came into this world without one and I will leave here witout one.  God is good too me.  I just have to encourage myself as much as I can and keep looking at my buddies responses from O.H. website. :)
Have a Blessed Day !

You have to find a exercise routine that interest you.  There are more ways to lose weight than just a gym.  Take up some dance classes or a low impact sport.

Thanks Jennah, I've started 5am this morning with just a walking routine w/George Foreman.  The workout was for 45 minutes.  It's not e-z but I'm trying much harder this go round.  The health problems you mentioned are already a part of my life.  So I appreciate your encouragement.  I have to be tough because I don't have a buddy system.  And the bottom line is, it's all up to me anyhow.  God bless you and keep up your good works.
