I want to join you
:) Hi, My BF tells me I need to post more on a board for people losing weight without surgery
since that's what I have to do. He may be right! I read so many boards here but it tends to make me feel stressed out sometimes since my journey to WLS is just headed into the unknown for now. My name is Jessie and I live in MI. I have 2 kids and am going through a divorce. I've been separated for a few years now and trying to put my life back together.
My highest weight was 344 in october according to the surgeons office I visited. He told me I was gonna drop dead at any moment basically. :( NOT motivational actually just scarey) I have all the comorbidities and I am no longer young... 10 years ago I lost over 100 pounds on my own and was really pretty healthy before and after that weight loss...NOW, having gained 140 back over that time I cant say that. I am super unhealthy but trying hard to fix it.
I think if a magic money or insurance fairy come down and told me I could go have the DS tomorrow I still would do it but since I cant plan on that happening I am left to fix this stuff on my own. I've lost 40 pounds and I think I could lose another 100 and still qualify for WLS at this point so even if I never have it I can keep it in my mind for probably another year lol Sorry if that didnt make sense.
I'm into my 4th month with my good attitude toward food...it's great to feel better but the exercise thing is a huge issue for me. I do good for a while then stop for a while....blah! The last time I weighed myself I was down to 302 which puts me about 3 pounds from having a BMI UNDER 50 and, of course being under 300 pounds... its been a LONG time, years. I know I still have so far to go and that most people cant even tell I've lost weight yet it's still worth it.
sorry for rambling its too early in the morning. lol

my exercise is incredibly sporadic... I really need to do something about that.
for diet... I did 2 months making better choices just eating under 1500 cals a day and lowish fat foods. I ate a lot of sushi actually lol But the last little bit here I've been doing atkins induction....when I eat this way I dont need idabetic meds and I always feel healthy and even in sugar levels its awesome!

Dear Jessyka:
I belong to Overeaters Anonymous, and I eat six healthy meals a day (three moderate ones, and three snacks), plus I exercise at least five days a week. I've been losing a pound a day roughly since November 18, 2009. I weighed 241.5 then, and I weigh 224 pounds now.

Look into your local church organizations. Lots of them have free classes you can take (at all hours of convenience). And you do not have to be a member of the church! I know here, our local LDS church has an hour long kickboxing class that I go to. (it is brutal but oh so worth it!). There are 6 people in the class and some belong to the church and some don't. It is free and they even have free access to a daycare room. I am sure other churches in town have the same sort-of thing. Another good place to look is senior homes or community groups/ buildings. They sometimes allow anyone who wants to, join. There are lots of free resources out there. You just have to be willing to look. I hope this helps!

You don't need to go to a gym to get a good work out. I started my cardio and weight lifting routines in Nov 2008 and have not stepped into a gym one day. I've done it all at home (inside the house and outside when the weather permits).
Can you go to Walmart and buy 2 five pound and 2 ten pound dumbbell's (I think they are even on sale this week)? That's all you need to get started....later you can add fifteen or twenty pound weights.
Do you have a bicycle? Can you pick one up from Craigs List?? It's GREAT cardio.
Walk --- a couple times when it was too cold to walk outside I actually walked around the inside of my house...couldn't go fast but I walked round and round for 30 mins....better than nothing.
Walking outside with boots and bundled up is not fun but if the streets are not a sheet of ice it can be done and believe me you warm up fast...I end up taking at least one sweatshirt off.
Anyhow, just wanted to enjoy you get moving...it made all the difference for me.
I need to get back into my normal routing...I'm still all out of whack after my last surgery but I have to stop making excuses...there is NO reason why I can't get on my treadmill or walk outside. Tell you what...I'll start tomorrow, want to join me??

Hi Jessie,
Sorry I'm so late in responding....I had surgery at the beginning of Feb and have not been on the PC as much as I normally am.
Anyhow, I wanted to say WELCOME to the forum and also CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss to date...that's AWESOME! I know how hard it is to lose weight especially doing it on your own. If I could do it at my age I know you can do it too. Keep your eyes on the prize. Believe me NOTHING tastes better than the feeling you have when you reach goal and maintain the weight loss.
Stay dedicated to yourself....you can do it!!!
PM me if you want to chat about challenges and triumphs.
Best wishes on your journey!!
Ruth
