Good morning and Happy New year everyone!!!  Ok so i don't have any medical insurance, can't afford surgery, so I'm thinking of protein drinks for a couple months at least. To get a jump start on my weight loss. I will of course talk to my Dr. but was wondering what your opinions and ideas are. Thanks!! Oh I need to lose 100 pounds.

You can supplement with protein drinks forever - but you need to reduce your overall calories at the same time. I had really good luck having a protein drink as a snack, morning and afternoon, and taking as many refined carbohydrates out as I could - all the white stuff, flour, sugar, white rice, pasta.
And getting away from "low calorie" prepackaged foods, making everything from scratch so you know what's in it.
good luck in the new year.

Jan, sounds like a good plan to ditch alla those evil overly processed carbohydrates.  How are you doing so far?

Mary!
So nice to see your flowery-self back!

My weight loss journey sucks right now.  I've gained almost all the weight back that I lost early last year. The only bright spot is my blood work looks OK (even a slight improvement) so the doc is not going to make me take more meds.

The kitchen is getting REALLY close to being done-a couple more small tiles to cut and half a day of grouting then clean, clean, clean and decorate! Work has gotten very busy and stressful and that does nothing to help me on the way to making healthy choices. Depression creeps in once in a while and that is not helpful either.

My son (age 36) is going back to Atkins and has found aps for his Iphone that help him with the tracking. He did really well last year and I am optimistic for his progress.

It is hard to believe but Trueman (the dog) will be 8 in April. That means 7 years ago I was 165 and walking 3 miles a day. It's been a yoyo ever since.

I have finally set a long term goal. Sixty is coming in a few years and I want to be fit and active and liking it by then, by golly! - when I was 48 I set a goal for 50 and made it in less than a year, so I'm hopeful now is the time to get going and maintain whatever good stuff I can achieve.

I'm currently on a VLCD through the hospital, and it is expensive, but I LOVE it!  I drink four shakes a day, and don't feel hungry.  I have to lose the same amount of weight as you, so it will take me a full year.  BUT the liquid part of the diet should only take me 6 months total.

I think it's GREAT to do it on your own, but I need so much support and feedback.  Plus I love the medical aspect of it:  Blood labs/EKG's once/month.

Good luck---there are so many good choices out there for meal-replacement drinks that will satisfy you with staying power!

Cheers,
Toni
