Update on me

Sorry I haven't been here in a long time - laptop got a virus and then I've been too busy with other things.

I'm still losing weight without any stalls and I've achieved some more of my goals. I'm down to 206 - would have been more but we enjoyed a short vacation and of course Thanksgiving dinner was a feast day which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm happy that getting down to 200 for New Years is looking more and more doable - however I'm going to thrilled with whatever weight I am on New Years because it's a heck of a lot less than last year. From my highest known weight I've now lost 130 pounds (I probably weighed 10 to 15 pounds more but I haven't checked my Drs records so I don't really know - I have no health problems now so I don't need to see the Dr. and I no longer need any medications). DH has lost 100 pounds - and I keep reminding him that between us we have lost 230 pounds - which is an incredible amount of weight. Everything is so much easier, you fit in seats with room to spare, my garage seems huge now etc.

This time last year I had to buy a new winter coat because my old one didn't fit - I bought a wool coat from Eddie Bauer in size 4X and I could barely button up the coat. I also bought a leather jacket from them that I couldn't zip up in 4X - my reasoning was I had given up and decided that I may as well buy some good coats so I could get on with life. LOL This year I had to buy a new coat because nothing I had was small enough and I bought size XL. This time I bought a cheap coat because I know that it will be too big next year. I'm thrilled with these results.

I fit into some clothes in Banana Republic - didn't buy anything but this was one of my goals so I'm thrilled with that. I'm looking forward to the next time I need clothes because it will be from regular sizes only.

I no longer quality for WLS because my BMI is below 40 and I have no comorbidities any more - even my osteoarthritis that I've had since a teenager is gone - you can't imagine how I feel about that?!?!?. In a few pounds my BMI will be below 35. I'm so happy that I never had surgery - I feel I dodged the bullet on that. I understand some people feel the need for surgery, but I'm much happier changing my food and keeping all my organs intact considering there was nothing wrong with my body, just my food choices. I have to thank Dr. McDougall for his website and books and all the info I've read. I have to thank Dr. Campbell for his book the China Study which set me on this path to health and weight loss success. The benefits and changes in my body have been incredible and not all of it is due to the weight loss - all of it is due to the food I eat now. The best thing is that I will not change how I eat so I will not gain this weight back - unlike in the past where it was so easy to fall off the wagon and stay off.

I feel like the little engine that could - I just keep chugging along and losing weight. I wish those of you struggling could try this diet - even for 2 weeks - you would see a huge difference.

Keep well, skylar

Thanks - and BTW it's good to see all your friendly avatars. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is ready to head into the rest of the seasonal festivities.

CeliaBloom, I follow what I guess is best called the McDougall Maximum Weight Loss Diet although I also eat the regular McDougall diet too on occasion. The best place to learn what I'm doing is in a book by Dr. McDougall called the The Mcdougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss which can be bought here http://www.amazon.com/Mcdougall-Program-Maximum-Weight-Loss/ dp/0452273803 or elsewhere. I borrowed it from my library. He also has a website with a great forum and there is information there on the diet as well. If you have medical problems for which you take medication you need to do this with help from your Dr. because just changing your diet will make such rapid changes in your health that you will have to stop most or all of your medication - especially that for high blood pressure or diabetes. That's why I recommend reading the book so you understand what happens in your body. I also recommend reading The China Study by Dr. Campbell because it is the scientific underpinning for why we should eat like this in the first place. I am so thankful that I found out about this way of eating - you can't imagine what it's like not to have arthritis and my skin is fabulous now.

Skylar you are doing amazing. Congrats on the loss. I'm sure you feel so great about what you have accomplished.  It's so awesome I think going to the stores and trying on clothes and seeing that you are in a size smaller I love doing that. I think it's so motivating and rewarding that all your hard work is paying off.

Keep up the great work. I'm proud of you, you have done amazing.
