Discovery about food
My name is Denise Phares, and my call name is Highpow. I've just discovered from my Higher Power something new about how I've been eating my food all these years.
My dearest friend Bob Bentley, dieted his whole life, and died, because he was constantly starving himself by not eating enough food. He killed his kidneys, and had a stroke, then died, from constant dieting over the years. He only lived to be 59, and this was absolutely devastating to me, because I loved him dearly, as a friend!
I want to learn from his example. I've been on over 30 diets in my entire adult life, and now, I've become emotionally unstable because I've been starving myself, too! I've started eating 5 small meals a day, now, instead of 3 large ones. I find I'm hungry in between meals, and I eat a snack, twice a day, to tide me over until the next meal.
Here is my schedule of eating, for all of you that are interested, and want to lose weight faster, without starving yourselves:
Breakfast
1/2 cup of egg substitute, scrambled
1 cup of whole grain cereal, with little sugar
1.5 cups of skim milk
A fresh fruit of any kind, including citrus fruit
Snack
A sandwich with whole wheat bread and healthy deli meat, with little salt in it
Lunch
A large salad with greens, baby carrots, tomato, celery, fresh mushrooms, unsalted peanuts (1/4 cup), a 1.5 oz. box of raisins, and homemade salad dressing, of any kind, as long as it's low calorie, and has little fat or salt in it
A fresh fruit, like an apple, or a pear, preferably ripe
2 8 oz. glasses of water
Dinner
Protein, cooked vegetables, 4 oz. of good yogurt with fruit, green ice tea (preferably diet)
Snack (mid evening)
Fruit and whole grain bread, or
A peanut butter sandwich with whole wheat bread and a little honey or sugar-free jam
This is my food plan, for now. I will give it more variety as I go along. I eat mostly vegetarian, with a little bit of animal meat, like chicken or fish, now and then. I eat nothing fried! And I eat absolutely no junk food of any kind - no pie, cake, cookies, etc. I only suck on a sugar-free candy disc once in a while, to satisfy my sweet tooth.

I've discovered that food tastes good and I want to enjoy it in ALL of its forms in moderation and in a managed eating plan. I'm working on ways to keep the occasional cookie and piece of cake in my life because food is enjoyable and I'm not going to lose out on one of the simple pleasures in life. No food is evil. The difference between medicine and poison is the dose. There is a time and place for chocolate cake, and carrots just ain't gonna cut it. I don't believe that the virtuous life calls for no chocolate cake ever again.
Original goal: lose 53 lbs. New goal: lose 68-78 lbs total.

Dear FelineMafia:
I agree with you that no food is evil. The other day, before church services, I was so hungry that I ate a few cookies. I dipped them in cream cheese so they wouldn't be so sweet! I agree with you that when you're eating mostly healthy food, an occasional cookie is fine! I was healthy, so it didn't harm me.
I'm sorry if I tried to sound like a saint, and perfect. I'm not! I'm a human being, and I have faults, too. Keep enjoying your food in all it's forms in moderation. That's a very good thing to do.
