Abstinence

I have over 62 days of abstinence, since I got into full recovery, and a conscious contact with my Higher Power.  I eat mainly vegetarian now, with occasional meat.  I've given up sugary sweets, and only allow myself sugar-free cough drops (if I need them), and sugar-free hard candy, like wintergreen or hot cinnamon, for watching movies with.  No sugar, no fat, no chocolate!

I feel better when I don't have cake, pie, or desserts of any kind.  I ate too much halloween candy and got sick as a result, two days later, by feeling weak and tired.  I'm sure eating sugar-free hard candy only occasionally won't hurt me.

This hasn't been easy.  I know I will miss the taste of those desserts.  I only do this one day at a time, as OA suggests.  Otherwise, it will be overwhelming.  Just for today, I won't have pie, cake, cookies, pastry, plum pudding, fruit cake, etc.  I'll be better off for it.

In the future, I will also avoid snack foods when I can, like potato chips, for instance.  I'll eat healthy versions of them when I eat out.

I'd like to use Stevia as a sweetener instead of Sweet 'N Low, as well.  It's a more natural low calorie sweetener to use in place of sugar.  It tastes the same.

Good for you Denise!  I'm so proud of you for taking the time to do what is right for YOU.  I realize that OH is for those who are seeking weight loss surgery, but this one little board is for those of us who have decided not to go that route.  We all have to follow our own hearts and you certainly have done that in spades.

It may have taken us a lot longer to get the weight off, but all of us on this site have one thing in common, we are all struggling to keep the weight off.  It's not easy either with or without surgery!

Keep on working that thang!
