Very happy where I am
Well today I turned 37 and was just thinking about when I started this journey on April 12th I do remember thinking if I can just be under 200 by my birthday I will feel I have succeded. So when I stepped on the scales this morning I weighed in at 178.8 so I'm so happy with the progress I have made. I am hoping by this time next year before I turn 38 I can be at my goal and maintaining. I know for me that's going to be the hardest part I've never had near as much trouble losing as I do at maintaining once I get there.

Way to go, Johnita! You have done an absolutely AMAZING job!!
Yes, maintaining is the huge challenge. The important thing to remember, whether you've had surgery or not, is that a return to old eating habits and trigger foods WILL INEVITABLY BRING REGAIN.
The change in eating and one's approach to food is a daily and lifelong challenge, but moderation is the key. I've found that the more I make veggies and lean protein the foundation of my diet, the less I crave the sugars that were my downfall time and time again as a dieter.
The more I analyze the mental stuff that makes me want to turn to food for comfort, the less power it has over me, too.
I love reading about the strides people are making on this board to positively affect their lives! It's a real inspiration.

Happy belated birthday. I guess it's important to think about what you are going to do to maintain as I guess it's a slightly different mindthought from losing weight.
I've already thought about what I will do - I'm only going to keep two sizes of clothes - what fits and one size up and that's it - the minute my clothes that fit feels tight it means I have to cut back what I eat for a few days until they fit again. I will not keep larger clothes anymore because I never want to be that size again. Of course I still have a lot of weight before I lose and I hope that this plan I have works for me when the time comes. LOL

For me what I have been doing is counting calories, I try to limit myself between 1200 - 1600 calories a day. I don't restrict myself from any type of food for me I know that would set me up for failure, because I know it's not realistic to think I'll never have a cookie again the rest of my life so I allow myself anything I might want to eat only it's always in moderation and I count it towards my daily calories. With that said there are 1 thing I have completely cut out and that's soda I only drink water or green tea now and I don't miss it at all. Another thing that I've only done about 2 or 3 times since I started changing my life is eating out, this is something though I do plan to start adding back into my diet because I know it's not realistic to think I'll never eat out again, the only reason I have cut this out right now is because of the sodium they load their food down with. I'm hoping though before long I can get eating out added back into my diet little by little.
Exercise has also been a huge step for me, I go to curves 3 - 5 days a week, I do the wii fit 7 days a week (every now and then I will take a day off but not often). I also do the wii active 30 day challenge which is 2 days on and 1 day rest all month. Then I try to add in DDR(dance dance revolution) every now and then, I used to do it a lot more often but I find lately I'm maybe doing it 1 day a week if that but I may try adding it back in some, I like changing up the exercise routine sometimes.
Hope this helps, it's not been easy but I am very happy with my results, and I think the reason I have been successful for myself is by not limtiing what I eat because I'm the type that would feel deprived and probably wouldn't last long if I was only eating healthy foods and having no treats at all.
