I'd really like to...
Lose 15lb's in the next 5 weeks! my B-day is in just over 5 weeks, and I have set a goal for myself to be at 229 by that date, however sometimes as we all know our bodies do not cooporate with us! So I have decided that although 229 is my goal, I am flexable and will allow my body to do what it is naturally doing, as long as i do my part, Physically, menatlly, emotionally, and spiritually to get myself there, wether the scale cooporates completley is another story, I have learned in this journey that Goals are good, but it is also good for them to be a little bit flexable and it is okay for them to change, I think so many times before I would set a goal for myself and then not hit it and become the victum, thinking poor me I cant ever do anything right so i might as well eat what ever I want and give up. Then I would eat what I wanted and feel guilty, i've decide Im done playing that game! im setting goals and these goals are a guide line for me, so I know where Im going and if I take a detour I can get back on the right path because that goal is still their! so what are some of you goals?

I completely agree with you, I think goals are great and they keep you motivated but i also agree they should be flexable. I have loved having my mini goals along the way to my long term goal, I think having the smaller goals along the way really keeps you motivated because once you reach them you are very proud of yourself and realize you can do it and it motivates you to keep going. I think for myself at least this was especially good because when I started and seeing I needed to loose around 90 pounds is a bit overwhelming but setting smaller goals that are much easier to hit along the way really has kept me focused. And it's hard for me to believe but as of today I'm only 27.8 pounds away from actual goal even though I think once I get there I will reevaluate and see if I want to loose more it will just be such a blessing to get there.

I agree with both of you - that's a healthy way to think about goals, especially if you don't sabotage yourself if you don't make a goal on time. Some people fall off the wagon when they don't reach their goal - it becomes an excuse not to keep on track.
I couldn't put dates on any of my goals early on because I had so much weight to lose that it seemed overwhelming, so like Johnita I celebrated every 10 pounds that I lost and I was thrilled when I fell below 300 pounds. Now I'm getting a little more greedy because I have a lot of very special goals for myself coming up - I'm just starting to fit into these wonderful clothes I had bought the last time I lost weight and the closest I came was 201 pounds, so I'm also excited to get below 200 pounds and the last huge goal is to fit in the regular size dress sizes. Then I'll fall out of the obese category into overweight - all of these are huge goals of mine but I try to keep them out of my mind and just concentrate on my small little goals of every 10 pounds. For the first time though I am hoping to reach a goal with a date attached - my kids haven't seen me since August and they will be coming home for American Thanksgiving - so I'm hoping to be 200 pounds then. I don't know how realistic this goal is since I weight 226 right now and I've been on the lazy side and not doing a lot of exercising right now. I do know that it's probably more realistic for me to hope to at 200 pounds for New Years celebration. So I'm sort of facing the same kind of goal as you - something that may not be doable but if we don't make our goals, we will be a lot closer than we are today. Keep up the good work.
