The short answer is no, 1800 cals a day probably won't  get you to a place where you drop weight. If you were fairly active daily, it may help you stay in maintenance.

I gain at that rate, even being active.  I am older than you, granted.

I think those fool calulators on the internet only apply to moderate to incredibly active 18-30 year old men. When i dug a little deeper into the research behind the BMI, calorie calculators, yep...I was right. Plus the research is outdated - that was basically fashioned in th 40's.

Most modern scientists realize that most women - save for competetion level athletic types - really have to stick to more like 1200-1400 tops to lose weight.

On the other hand, trying it certainly will not hurt you!  fachryeye, what you are doing now is frustrating for you. I think there is something to spiking up calories 1-2x weekly, if for nothing else to trick your metabolism. So maybe go somewhere in between - spike it to 1800 a couple times a week and the other days keep it to more like 1400.

best of luck, neen. you hold a spot in my heart.

Janina,

I admire your fortitude in being able to count calories!!! I've never been able to do that for more than one or two days.

Keep doing what you believe is right! But please get the water in. I drink 100 oz daily, and find that is ideal.

I coach those I'm assisting with weight release to do the same. I don't coach calorie counting because it makes me sweaty. :-)

Keep on keepin' on, girl!
