Hi Marissa, I'm sorry you're having this problem. First of all it really sucks that men lose weight faster than women - it's because they are larger and have more muscle mass.

You might have some swelling due to a pelvic cyst which may be masking some weight loss. Have you tracked your food online to see how many calories you have been eating? Have you weighed or measured your food? You might be eating more calories than you thing you are - I know that I have a problem in this myself. I start weighing and measuring and then I think I know how much I need - then I started adding just a smidge more, and more until my serving is much larger than what it should be. BTW, there is a lot of room for error in these calorie measuring programs - so even if everything you eat adds up to "X" calories - it could be up to 30% off - meaning a 100 calories could really be somewhere between 70 - 130 calories - it's not an exact science. LOL

Exercise is important but most of the calories we burn are from just being alive - so it's important not too eat too may calories.

Hope this helps keep you on track.

Hi Marissa,
I too have had surgery with Dr. Sapala and the thing about this is that you are going to have your weight loss days and you will plateau and then start to loss weight again. Remember that the surgery is a tool to teach us how to eat healthy and in portions. When you get a chance schedule an appointment with Dr. Sapala and Mary Zoto the nutritionist so you can express your frustration. They will give u advice and get you back on track mentally and diet wise. Also don't forget each pt is different but relly on their experience and they will guide you thru it all. I am 10months out and their knowledge have help me lose close to 150lbs. Stick with their advice and dont let anything stop you from achieving your goal. If you want to talk please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be glad to help in any way I can. Dr. Sapala has been amazing and I have learn alot.

Yanno, 9# in 2 weeks indicates to me that it was largely water weight. I would hang on to the fact that I lost any weight!

Do NOT compare to husbands!!!!!!  Typically they lose very fast, esp on Atkins.  They have a different muscle mass than we girls do, not as many hormones to conflict. Just don't DO that!

So much of being on a food plan can be like this - exactly what you are going thru.  That damnable scale just does not cooperate even when we are doing all things right.  Whcih is exactly why so many of us fall off - we get that WHY TRY feeling.

I suggest that you write a list of "Other Benefits" to your food plan.  For example, do feel less bloated? Losing inches? fell less hungry?  that type of thing.  And hang on to the positives!

Dry those tears and get back to life!

Marissa, don't be discouraged! Everyone is saying the same thing: Men lose faster than women, and the number on the scale is only one measure of improved health. Look at the way your clothes feel, how you can walk a bit further, or breathe a bit easier. It's all part of the total journey.

Another thing, the body goes into stalls. It will lose weight, then hang at one weight for a while, then suddenly shed several pounds at once. That is normal and natural. Just keep on eating within your calories every day, moving around in the activity of your choice, and the weight will come off.

Lastly, give yourself some TIME, lady! How long did it take us to get to our highest weights? For me, several years. I didn't go from 130 to 292 overnight! And nor will you go from your current weight to your goal weight overnight. Accept that it will be gradual, it will be non-dramatic compared with surgical weight loss. Set mini-goals, and keep at it. It's like digging a tunnel with a spoon. It takes a long time of doing essentially the same damn thing over and over again. Good luck and keep plugging away!

Don't fall off the horse because you didn't lose anything this week, it will come off but only by remaining on the program. Celebrate your 9 lbs and add some exercise, even if it's just a small walk around your house. It will come off

Hi!
Don't be too hard on yourself and don't compare yourself to your hubby to be.  Men and women are different....we lose weight differently.

Losing 9 lbs in 2 weeks is A LOT! You body is probably adjusting....when you restrict food your body will go into survival mode and hold onto whatever you give it (fat storage).
I personally am not a fan of any program that severely restricts any food group. But I know a lot of people lose weight following the Atkins plan.  Me, I love my fruit and veg and couldn't give it up.  When I decided to get serious about losing weight I decided to Eat Healthy.  I eat from every food group and make healthy choices (I eat a minimum of 6 meals a day).  It's worked.....I've lost almost 160 lbs.
Exercise is very important.  It's the best way to kick weight loss into high gear and if you do some weight lifting and build muscle you will burn fat when resting!

The important thing is follow a plan that works for you that you are comfortable with.  Don't think of it as a temporary thing...it needs to be a live long change!

I could go on about this for hours......... if you want to discuss feel free to PM me.
Best wishes on your journey
