Non-scale victory - have you heard of NSV?

When I first started lurking people were constantly posting NSV all the time and it took me a little while to figure out they meant a Non Scale Victory such as someone noticing they lost weight, a compliment etc. Sometimes it's good to celebrate these kinds of small victories even if the scale is not moving and then use it as motivation to keep eating properly.

Well we went away for a mini vacation. We fly on two different sized small jets and I was thrilled to discover that I didn't need a seat belt extender and the tray tables had plenty of room as did my rear end in the seat. I also kept up with my grown children walking all over the place, up and down stairs etc. without any rest which is a huge achievement since this time last year I couldn't walk a few steps without sitting down for a rest.

And while I didn't always have the option to eat the healthiest choices of food, I still did well and came home to discover that I've lost more weight - so I'm 241 today which puts me one pound away from my next mini goal of 240. It's always so nice to get away but it's always nice to come back home again. Best of all, the pants I've been wearing for the last two months are too big on me so I've dropped a size as well.

Do you celebrate non-scale victories?

YES!! They are essential to enjoying our transformative experience. Weight loss does take time, so in order to keep up the enthusiasm, it's good to celebrate things we notice on a daily basis that are different in our lives because of the weight loss and improved health, and not just the number on the scale.

Case in point: Yesterday, some guy looked at my ass as I passed by on my morning run. All RIGHT!! Yowza--getting checked out because someone thinks I'm cute--hasn't happened in a LONG time, and it made me feel pretty damn good!

Trying on jeans that were tight 6 months ago and now have extra room in the waist-- BOO-YAH!! Awesome!!

Having a friend who hasn't seen me in a couple of months go,"Wow! That running is really making a difference!" THAT happened to me today. So, up with NSVs and down with negative Nellies.

NSV's are a great idea, I had a good one for this summer every summer my kids do swimming lessons and every summer I sit on the side of the pool and watch because I have never been comfortable enough to get in a bathing suit in front of others, this year I got a cute suit and some shorts and went in everyday with my 2 year old and swam while my two oldest were in lessons! it felt great! I had a mini goal of being 245 by my Anniversary which is just a few days away, I am close but not there  yet, I will post and let you know how close I get by Sun. and Skylar, 241 that is AMAZING! congrats! I will be there soon! funny how close in weight we have been this whole journey!

YES!!!   My favorite NSV is fitting in clothes that I would not have dreamed of a few months ago!  I found some size 14 strech jeans that fit!  They were tight but I could have worn them and sat down in them.  Vanity sizing?......probably but I dont care.......it said size 14 on the tag and I felt great!!!
