Red wine and calorie restriction...didn't we already know that??  But 1000 times what we would drink in a night! WOWZA!!  Now that's a lot of resveratrol.

It's making me think...I know Necee has been lecturing this to all of us, and I know one of my doctors has been too....but, why not REDUCE CALORIES!!  So simple eh?  I wonder how many times we have been told this...over, and over, and over again, it's nothing new.  We ALL know this!!!    Why do we have to "follow a plan"?  Why don't we just WAIT UNTIL WE ARE HUNGRY and lower our food intake!!  I wonder how many calories these "skinny" people (think that is what they called themselves) ate. I never did catch that.  I do know it was just once a meal.  Wonder if that is too extreme?  They didn't look like they ate that much in that one meal.  Would you do that?

At first it talks about red wine.  We all know about the studies about how red wine is heart healthy.  But I guess they are trying to make a pill out of what is inside of the red wine that makes us healthier.  It suppose to help us live longer.  These doctors are swearing by it that it will work.  What amazed me is the consumption you would have to drink, if you just drank the red wine nightly.  I think he said something like you would have to drink a thousand times the amount a night...something like that...to get the benefit of the one pill.

Then it went on with a study about some people who are eating VLC diets.  This on couple they showed only eats once a day, and that meal isn't much from what it looks like.  But they say that with calorie restriction, comes longevity.  Which we all know, but we don't seem to get it in our big thick noggens to actually only eat when hungry!  Sort of an eye opener for ones who seem to forget....like me ...((hides behind the chair)).  We always get stuck on plans, we forget we only need to fuel our body.   Which is exactly what I remember thinking when I was thinner.  That why can't more people realize that we only need to "fuel" our body to live!!  We tend to forget to EAT TO LIVE, NOT LIVE TO EAT!!!!

Which happens to be my favorite book...Eat to Live!  You've probably read it since you know about the China Study :)

Okay, I watched it - thanks for posting. I think it's one of those things that you take with a grain of salt.

I really dislike red wine unless I'm cooking with it so if it is in pill form, I'm all for that. However after doing a lot of research on antioxidants I've discovered that taking things like beta carotene in high doses actually is dangerous and can cause cancer instead of protecting you from it. This was discovered after NIH funded research. Apparently our body needs beta carotene along with other nutrients in a balanced diet. Resveratrol may turn out to have the same outcome - so I'm going to wait awhile to see more data from major peer reviewed medical journals, especially from scientists who have no monetary gains to be made one way or the other. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/red-wine/HB00089 Mayo Clinic's review is good to read to start.

VLC diets - I didn't realize people actually did these although years ago I remember reading something about them. LOL Won't be happening anytime in this century in this household. Even their food looked unappetizing - or am I the only one that thought that?  I do agree that lowering your calorie intake is important - hey we're not getting fatter because we eat less calories. But I'm with you - we need to fuel our bodies with healthy, nutrient dense choices.

I didn't know that Eat to Live is your favorite book - yes, I've read it and found it extremely informative. I read it after reading China Study which changed my life. I didn't know anyone else here read these books and were following a whole food mostly or entirely vegan diet. I'm going for blood work in two weeks and I can't wait to see the changes in my blood profile. Have you read the Engine 2 Diet by Rip Essylstein? I found some thoughtful information about reading labels and myths about foods.

Frankly I think everyone should read The China Study - doesn't matter how you decide to eat after reading that book, but you can make informed choices after that book.

Yeah, Hol! Reservtol (mispelled I am sure) is the New Thing on weight loss horizon! I have been trying out the JUDDD plan for a couple weeks now - google it and read more. I bought some grape seed extract with the reservtrol in it.  We'll see.

basically, JUDDD is eating VERY little every other day.  Most peeps do M-W-F and then UD (Up Days) on the other days with Sunday being a moderate intake day.

It is not hard for me - in fact it meets my belief about intermittant fasting to give the gut a rest and general clean out. On my DD's (Down days) I eat only veggies, a little fruit, 1-2 protein drinks. 500ish calories. Lots of water.

What i think is happening according to my fitday is that I net out more like 1100 cals average for the week. I do not over eat on the UD's...no more than usual i should say, LOL. Even still, I am averaging a number that *should* help me lose weight.

Plus...my fasting days, I feel amazing. Seriously, no more hungry than when i try to limit the cals like any other day of eating!

I was able to do 2 sort of low days in vegas, but I will see how it all went in a couplemore weeks when i will weigh in at the Y.
