Summer time...easier or harder??

I was just emailing Brenda and it made me wonder if I am the only one that can't seem to follow any kind of plan or follow good eating habits during the summer.

Sure I "try", but I seem to only "try" enough to maintain the weight I am at!  I just don't have it in me to do anything about it this summer.  It's nice outside, warm weather, camping, taking the kids to the lake, vacations..  It's just hard to focus on eating right and healthy! I have too many other ideas and thoughts in my head to keep my busy during these months. Now if I do these, is a different story..but you got the idea. ;)

I know my fruit intake is good, but my veggie portion has been lacking.  I've just caught on though and going to make it a point to add more veggies.  But tons and tons of starches!  Starches galore!!  Another thing I have noticed this summer is that I DON'T WANT TOO COOK!!!!!  So it's microwavable stuff galore!  It's too hot in here to cook!  Last nights dinner consisted of a baked potato with the works, and watermelon!!ha  I ended up adding cheese on my potato for some protein.  I'm really lacking protein because you have to COOK it!! Plus we're budgeting, but I can't blame my budget on my whole eating disaster.

Anyone else find it hard to eat exactly the way they want too in the summer time??  Or is it just me since I live in Alaska and hate the winters, so I just want to have fun and eat what I want in the summer! :)

You live in Alaska?  You poor thing - I lived there for a year back in the early '90's and well . . . . .

For me it's a mixed bag.  Summer has it's temptations but my big problem with winter are the holidays - I can easily put on 10 pounds over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.  The only issue I have with summer is if it's too hot to exercise outside.  The winter I have the - it's too cold or raining to exercise.

We're creatures that are never happy aren't we! :)  Thats what I was thinking too when I was going through my pros and cons of summer vs winter.  I think we can always find blame  on something if we want too "or need too".hehe

Winter I always think...just if it was summer I could get outside and do more things.  Now I'm thinking it's too hot to go roaming around (and yes, I think Alaskas summers are hot...born and raised here) and it's just like a holiday...it's SUMMER! That is...only two good months out of the year to be happy!lol

For me this is worse than holidays, as I really want to move and feel stuck here.  So I really depend on these two good months.  Guess in my mind NOTHING is going to stop me from enjoying them....even food! :)

I am finding it to be a little bit more challenging myself, but I think it may be because their are more BBQ's and summer stuff like the 4th of July that all include eating and "treats" luckily I have my shakes and they are a great source of protein and they are nice and Cold so I dont have to worry about cooking to get my protein in! also I know for me summer heat zaps the energy right out of you so that makes cooking more of a challenge as well! but I was writing in my journal this morning and promised my self that I would be more FOCUSED this week than last week, (over induldged in carbs and snacking)  and that this week my goals are to increase my water intake and watch my portion control and also limit my carb intake!

Mmmm BBQ's...

Maybe you should take it upon yourself to create some healthy BBQ's!  You are doing so well.  Every  time I read about ya, I only hear positive feedback from you, it's great!  You just keep on hanging in there, doing your thing!  You are doing awesome!!!

Heat does zap ya doesn't it.  I am a big one on that.  I just lay there in front of my fan and do diddly squat!!

Oh yes, The eating in our household has had a major overhaul, so our BBQ's are definatley on the healthy side, thanks for the encouragement Hol ! I will keep on going, this is for life,  but I see so much positive benefit  already, not just for me but for my entire family, and that is sooo important to me! Sometimes I feel like the charicter Dori in Nemo "just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming , swimming..." HAHA!

I guess i am a bit different then everyone else. I find it easier. When its hot nothing sounds good to eat. So therefore I don't want to eat. But when i do eat it is healthy things.I love the summer because of all the fresh fruits and vegetables! They are so much better in the summer and so much more of a variety. It is hot so at times it does make it hard to go out and walk but we get out about 7:30pm or so and its hot but not as bad as it is at noon or 3pm..and we go walk for a good hour..the kids sleep so much better..we got fresh air which is great! and we get home and are hot of course so you really dont want to eat anything. I find it harder in the winter to eat right and exercise.
