I think what your doing is great. I wish you the best. I once went in for the lap band and long story short I had it removed a week later. I still dont know if it was me or the band that was wrong. But I always had it in my head that surgery was the only option. I felt sorry for myself and just was depressed. Well about 2 yrs passed and I had gained even more weight. So I decided to get the band again. Well as I was speaking to the hospital to schedule my appointment it hit me that I wanted to try to do this on my own. A part of me was scared and wasnt sure if it would even work since I had failed once. But Guess I did not have the surgery and I lost 160lbs and It is possible. You can do it. Im not anti surgery and if thats what you must do go for it. But it is possible do this on your own. I started at 411lbs and I actually lost 160 in 6months with a healthy diet and excercise. I kept it off for 2 yrs. but I didnt keep it off because I became one of those emoitional eaters and let myself go. Another long story But I'm ready to do this again. And this time the keyword is LIFESTYLE. GOODLUCK I know we can do ths.

I'm with you on this one!  My doctor had told me I was a candidate for surgery and that's what made me decide to do it on my own.  I've lost 25lbs. so far this month.  It's definitly doable.  The good news is this- the larger you are, the more calories you burn with excersize.  So if you stick with walking, and watch your calorie intake you WILL do this!  It's good that you are making a lifestyle change.  I know in my case, I had to make this into a project that my friends and family are involved in.  Everyone I love knows what I am doing, so it helps with avoiding temptations, getting someone to take a walk with you, or even just having some one to share the excitement of each small victory.  I wish you the best, and if you need any support, contact me.  I'd be glad to share in this with you!

Nikki,  Good luck with the lifestyle change.  Even if you do decide later to go with surgery, you will have to make the lifestyle change.  I lost weight before my surgery and had changed my lifestyle through diet and exercise prior to my VSG surgery three years ago.  I have managed to lose all my excess weight and maintain my weight for three years.  I have a 22.5 BMI.

If you decide later on to pursue surgery, consider the VSG.  It doesn't requrie all the lifestyle changes of a RNY with respect to protein and vitamins - since one doesn't mal-absorb.  You digest your food normally and it's a very simple, safe surgery.

Good luck with everything.

Good luck to you Nikki!! Changing those eating habits can be done but it does take time. Give yourself lots of time and be patient with your body. I've been doing Weigh****cher's for 3.5 years and something I've had to learn (and believe me it's hard) is patience. There are weeks where I do everything "right" and I don't see the results on the scale I think I've earned. However, when I stick with it and don't sabatoge myself, I DO see the results maybe a week or two later. Sometimes the body has a mind of its own and doesn't respond to our time-table.

Good luck! I'm very glad you have such great support at home with your husband and mom!

I lost my weight with Weight Watcher's & Zumba. I've lost 302 lbs. You can visit my weight loss website at www.freewebs.com/infectiouslaughter

Hey Nikki!
Thanks 4 pointing out this forum to me - just from these responses you got, I can feel the love!  I'm with you sister - I know we can do it!  Ever since I got my rny surgery date (7/27), I literally broke out in hives - I've seen an allergist, a dermatologist - no cure, no relief, just meds that made me sleepy.  This past 4th of July weekend, I had a heart 2 heart talk w/ my husband - he offered me all his support and we discussed me postponing my surgery date.
I have decided to call off (postpone 4 now) the rny, and give myself 1 more try - this time 4 keeps by making a lifestyle change that will help me and my family will also benefit from my example.  I checked into sparkpeople for journaling my progress, it's a little confusing - I need to spend some time to figure out.  I KNOW we are doing the right thing, Nikki - I can feel it in my heart - and you know what?  I finally feel at peace with this decision!
Big hugs!

Lisa

well girls

I am with you guys.I have an appointment for first consultation sept 7th with a WLS surgeon, but since that decision, I am so terrified. I really would LOVE to succeed without surgery but I always doubt that it can be done. This forum gives some hope, although sometimes people dissapear and it makes me wonder if they stil are maintaining or maybe secretaly gaining again.

I am keeping my appointment (it is only a first consultation anyways) and I am doing it 3 fold now:

1) Healhty living and making healhty choices. Tracking my food via Sparkpeople, keeping between 1800-2200 kcal.

2) exercise. just joined a gym for some aquarobics, bodypump and in the near future zumba, and also cardio and weights.

3) my head! I am in therapy via email with a psychologist who is specialized in people with eating problems and obesity. Been doing that for half a year now and starting to make great steps forward. I am sure it is an essential component to permanent weight loss.

I've lost 10 kilograms so far in 6 weeks (that's about 24 pounds i guess?) so not bad. Even bettre: i have not had binge episodes  in 5 weeks either, due to the head work.

I really want to make it work this time, and if it doens't work, I WILL have WLS. Because staying fat is not an option. I want to be a fit and healthy mum for my boys and be the best, healhtiest and happiest Carina I can be

Wish you GOOD luck and let's keep each other posted!
