What diets have you tried

I'm pretty boring - every time I went on a diet I used something that is similar to the Diabetic exchange diet - pretty simple to follow. I don't have diabetes and I don't know if they still use this diet anymore.

I also was on Medifast years ago - 5 shakes and lots of water - no solid food. I lost weight but I could never do this kind of diet again. I lost 100 pounds in 6 months and kept it off for about 2 years.

DH did the cabbage soup diet until he got diarrhea two days later - he los****er weight but regained it a few days later LOL.

So what diets have you tried?

Skylar, I have been on every diet out there. Sure I lost weight for awhile but always gained all the weight back and a little more.  I do not believe in diets.  I read somewhere that out of 100 people who have  lost weight through dieting, 95 of them will gain all the weight back and  more.

I believe the best way to look at it is to think that this is not a diet but that you must change the way you eat for life.  Every diet endsand then what.  Pick foods or a program that you can continue on for life. I have lost 150 pounds and have kept it off for more than 2years.  You can do it but  pick something that you can stick to.

Wow Rose, very impressive. I looked at your before and after picture and it's hard to believe they are the same person. You look wonderful.

I agree and that is what I'm doing, making changes that are not about a diet to lose weight, but a healthy way to eat. I'm lucky that my DH is 100% for all the changes that we've made. You are right about so many people who lose their weight gain it back. That's what happened with Medifast - I kept it off for two years, then I got sick and we fell back into all of our bad eating habits.

Thanks for posting.

I am sure I will forget one but here goes:

cabbage soup diet

Stillman

Hollywood (actually thisone worked for the longest time)

Pritikin

Zone/South beach/Sugar Busters - very closely related

WW - 2x

Slimfast

Atkins

Bariatric doc

Honorable mention: scads of illegal and OTC drugs to kill hunger

In my vast experience as a pro dieter, I do agree with what has been mentioned:  find what works for you and plan on it for life.

In my mind, the "goal" for all food plans is really to reduce caloric intake in the most comfortable way possible.

I've also come to realize that many times, a maybe good idea needs the right time to be tried. I think of WW that way. I did it once years ago - my mind was not there yet. Of all the organized plans I've done, WW is still the best for my life. I can plan to eat the same food everyone else eats.

Neecee, you've certainly have tried a few and you certainly are a pro dieter LOL.

I never did WW because I was too cheap to pay for something like that and I didn't like the idea of being weighed in front of everyone. I know it keeps you accountable, but I'm kind of private about that stuff.

Hmmm...how much storage does this server have because I'm not sure it could hold that much information.

Weigh****cher's when I was eight because my oldest sister MADE me do it with her.  Have I mentioned lately that I hate peas?

Then there was not eating anything when I was a teenager, when I only THOUGHT I was fat cuz the size zero cheerleaders thought THEY were fat.

The Grapefruit Diet

The Low (low low low) Calorie Diet on which I drank a ton of diet soda filled with chemicals, but who knew back then?

Dr. Atkin's Diet...my teenage friend's version, not his.

Medifast

Protein shakes with Oprah

Pritikin for two days...that absolutely sucked!

Low fat/no fat...which was complete insanity.  I gained from eating too many processed carbs.

The Soup Diet, that made me puke. Vomit 2

The All Natural Diet

Hormone shots.

The Zone Diet but I never quite got in the Zone. I Dunno

SugarBuster's Diet, which to me is the most well balanced low carb diet there is and the easiest one to follow.  I lost 17 pounds on that and then my doc put me on Metformin for my PCOS, so I switched to Dr. Atkin's Diet, his version, and I lost my last forty pounds.

Oh, and last but not least, the Plastic Surgery Diet...my surgeon cut off 25 pounds. Cool

One of the best things I ever did was to go to group hypnotherapy sessions with my friend Debbie.  I learned how to handle the stress of dieting and how to have discipline.  I wasn't raised to have discipline so it was a totally freeing concept...I know that sounds strange, but it was.

Oh Mary, another one for Medifast - horrible wasn't it?

The hypnotherapy sounds interesting - and it definitely helps to learn to deal with stress instead of using food. Did you learn relaxation therapy as part of it?

I think I was literally on every popular "diet"......

Counting Cals
Weigh****cher
Nutrisystem
Jenny Craig
Slim fast
Herbalife
Medifast
High Carb
Low Carb
Atkins
Low/no Fat
Richard Simmons
Diet Pills
Pineapple (that was a funny one....eat pineapple after lunch and dinner to negate what was eaten)
Fasting then Feasting
Suzanne Sommers
.......that's all I can think of......there are probably more....

It wasn't until I just started to eat healthy AND EXERCISE that I was successful.
Now I'm very happy NOT being on a diet and eating healthy and living an active life.

This post looked like fun so I thought I'd jump in!

Lets see... I have done the "dont eat until your starving cause otherwise your gonna fell fat" diet.. good ol' high school mentality
....gosh I cant remember what its called.. it was a low carb type of diet... something about cranberry juice every day... anyway I did lose about 15lbs before I left for college.
.... my best one wasn't really a diet at all. When I graduated HS I was 245lbs, I lost about 15lbs like I said before college.. when I got to college I was eating 3 times a day (for the first time in my life) and I was walking ALL the time. I went to a bible college with no in-dorm cable so to entertain myself and meet people I'd walk the campus. I think I would walk hours a day. Within 5 months I had lost 70lbs. I was between 165-175lbs. I kept that off for 4 years until I got pregnant with my son. Gained everything back and then some due to bad eating habits (back to the once a day eating) and bed rest and having pre-eclampia.
... before I got pregnant again i was on something called the skinny switch.. I liked it, lost 10lbs in a month (cause then I got pregnant again.. lol so I stopped) it had a concept of 3 days on the diet, one day off (but still healthy.. but more carbs.. it was interesting). It spelled out the food plans... so I never had to think about what to eat. I liked that. I HATE having to think about what to eat. Thats why I lost in college... it was buffet style so I would color cordinate my plate (lol sounds silly but it worked!) I had greens, yellows, and reds. Didnt put much thought into it.

SO those were my plans... I was never a huge diet fan... I have always believed and still believe that just being active and having a healthy life style should work... working out is the best! :)
