Interesting but.........
For most of my adult life my "normal" temp is 97.8 and I'm routinely checked for thyoid issues and the tests always come back normal. Just had it tested 3 weeks ago.

Well, she said if it was below 98 it needed to be checked and you did so now you know. Did it come back in mid range normal or the low side of normal? Jillian Michaels says that we all need to have them checked once we go through menopause because as we age they can get sluggish, and low side of normal can be sluggish, but that most conventional doctors won't treat a "sluggish" thyroid.
In my case it's hereditary because both my mother and my grandmother needed thyroxine after they went through menopause. Geeze, I couldn't have inherited sumpn' like money from them instead?

Hi Moosie! Same here...the only thing my PCP would say is that a "normal" reading may not indicate the right reading for my body.
He still will not Dx me on this. I know it's hard for him to believe that I really don't eat that much and am a faithful exerciser.

Dear Mary:
I was recently tested for thyroid function, and my tests showed I was borderline hypothyroidism. I don't have a problem with cold, and my temperature was normal when taken. Since I was borderline, my doctor suggested I just wait and have it tested again during my physical in December 2009. I take so much medication as it is, that I wasn't particularly enthusiastic about taking something for my thyroid.
I feel that since I'm premenopausal and 57 years old, that may explain partially why my weight loss is slow. I saw partially because I am not on a rigid and regimented weight loss diet - I am simply eating three moderate meals a day with nothing in between, choosing healthy foods with an occasional treat three times a week. Because I have a small box of candy once a week on Saturdays while watching a movie and DVD, that may explain the slow weight loss to some degree. I am not willing to give this up at this time.
I weigh myself once a month, because if I do it any more than that, then I obsess and worry about how much I weigh and how much I should be losing. OA recommended I do this, because I am a compulsive overeater and need to focus on daily abstinence rather than weekly weighing. I try to avoid bingeing, as well, since this interferes with my weight loss more than anything else. By not "snacking" (eating in between meals) I usually avoid bingeing altogether.
Thanks for the info!
