Feel like giving up
HI everyone,
I'm new here. I've been searching the internet lately looking for help. I'm severely overweight. I was lable to lose around 50 pounds in 2006 with the help of a nutritionist. then I gained like 55 back!!! BY THE NEXT YEAR!! I started seeing her again but I couldn't continue to go because of finances and our schedules. Of course no nutritionist/dieticians are available on the weekend. I feel like im just wasting away. I can't see a nutritionist, for whatever reason cant get myself started, i know what to do..duh...i've been to a nutritionist twice!!!, and im tired. I've been seriously considering looking into wls...but i really don't want to. I really want to lose my weight one sweat at a time...because i love excercise and working out....it's just I guess I need that support I can't find. I dont know of any support group and because my daughter is 4 1/2 I REFUSE to take her....so my oly available time is the weekend. any suggestions?? what have other's done to get started, etc.?

We would love to help you here -how can we help you get started? We understand that you want to eat better and lose weight so you can keep up with your daughter and enjoy living.
When you went to the nutritionist, what did they do to encourage you? What kind of food were you eating?

I dont know. I dont know why I'm doing this. I dont know why I'm eating like this. When I went to the nutritionist, I dont remember what she did. I guess it was me having to bring my journal in, being weighed every week. that's my assumption. but honestly i just dont know. maybe it was all the information she provided, giving me better insight and inspiring me. at this point, im really down, confused, and unhappy. to give you an idea...i estimate myself between 205 - 210 @ 5' 3/4"!!!!!! I was considering medifast..... i tried walking in the morning...and maybe when i change my daughter's school I'll have more time. i just feel like i'm running in circles with this.
I was on a strict diet, eating at certain times...and that really works. i've changed my eating habits...tho...i don't eat meat anymore. I dont consider myself a vegan or a vegetarian but i dont eat meat or eggs. I do eat some dairy products, yogurt...i can tolerate cottage cheese....and i go back and forth between vegi cheese & regular cheese. I dont drink milk....but i will eat ice cream. so i make my own rules.

NEVER GIVE UP on yourself!
You've already shown you can lose weight....you did it when you lost 50 lbs. The nutritionist didn't lose it for you, you did it! So you can do it again.
First thing you have to do is stop beating yourself up. OK, you gained weight and feel bad, now snap out of it and take control. You and you alone can lose the weight for yourself. If you can't find enough love for yourself to do it, do it for your daughter.
Don't look at the BIG number you want to lose. Take it 10 lbs at a time or 25 lbs at a time. That's how I lost my 150 lbs.
The first thing you can start doing today is write down EVERYTHING you put in your mouth. Count those calories. There are on-line programs you can use for free to track your food if you don't have a calorie book at home. Put seriously write down everything. I add 12 raisins to my oatmeal mix and I add it to my daily food journal! You'll be AMAZED how much you a eating that you didn't even realize. It doesn't matter to me what program you follow but the bottom line is calories in - calories used = weight lost.
My "diet" advice is simple. Don't diet.....Eat Healthy. Don't be overly restrictive. Eat from ALL food groups (except the "junk food" group). You know what is good for you and what is not. A bagel with butter for breakfast is not a good choice. How about Oatmeal or a poached egg (no butter on the toast). If you drink tea and/or coffee during the day (like I do) use skim milk or 1% instead of whole milk or cream. Cut up an apple for afternoon snack you feel like munching on something. Eat a big lunch and a smaller dinner. These simple changes to start will yield results and will motivate you to do more.
For exercise go for a walk in the morning or at night. Take your daughter with you.......push her in a stroller. You'll be setting a great example for her that daily exercise is important. Make it fun "mommy and me time" for her. Start with 30 mins and by the end of the week get up to 40 mins. Do that every day and you will boost your weight lose.
As the saying goes "the first step is the hardest" but once you take it you are on your way. So cut back on something today and go for a walk........do it today!
PLEASE do it for yourself! Don't waste your life like I did for so many years. You have 1 body and you need to take care of it.
Please let me know if you have questions PM me if you want to chat more about healthy eating. I'm passionate about it and happy to help you.
Be well, be healthy, be happy.

Welcome to OH, we're here to help, even if we're like a disfunctional family at times .
Here's what I see going on with your post: You need support? You can get it here. If you don't think you get enough of it by posting, send me a PM, I'll give you some more.
One thing I see that stands out: you like exercise. That's about 80% of the battle in my opinion. Most people, particularly when they're starting a Weight Loss journey, absolutely hate exercise, so you are way ahead of most in that aspect of the work ahead of you. Now, on to the nutritionist. You say you don't know why it worked necessarily except that it might have been the weekly weigh-ins and food diary. . . . .BINGO! That's it - you got it! I did this same approach about 20 years ago with a nutritionist with twice weekly weigh-ins and a food diary and I lost 40 pounds. You know how to eat and what to eat, right? You know how to exercise, right? Just be accountable to yourself. When I was losing weight, I was doing weigh-in's on Mondays and Thursdays. Now that I'm on maintenance, I weigh every day.
To this day, I still write down everything I eat on a 5 x 7" steno pad. I also write down my exercise. Each page of the steno pad is one day of my plan. I never skip, no matter how far off plan I go. And I also record my weight each day (while losing, twice a week).
So, just go with what worked for you before. The biggest hurdle is motivation and goals. I always set goals for myself. Just decide something realistic - like before 50 pounds by Christmas or whatever you think is realistic for you and your lifestyle. And then set a reward - like I'm going to buy a size ** pair of jeans, or something else. And then set another goal. At this point, I set gym goals all the time. Like, I want to be able to do a 45 minute interval session on the Elliptical Trainer at a 10/10 incline-resistance. . . . . When I was 95 pounds heavier, I couldn't pedal that thing for five minutes on a 1/1 setting.
Good luck and keep us posted. Donna

You've had some great advice on how to get back on track so I'll only add this. If you don't eat meat, try taking a whey protein supplement to make sure that you get enough protein to fuel your workout, otherwise your body will take it from your muscles.
Dieting is such a head game and we can all use help with that whether we're just getting started or trying not to regain. Try to monitor your triggers for eating and learn from them, or come here and let us examine them for you. We're all here for you.
