What Have You Done Today to Make You Feel Proud? The Craving From Hell!
OMG, last night was terrible! About six thirty, I started jonesing for some biscotti with cafe au lait, so I made a salad and ate that. Then I cleaned the kitchen and decided to get the heck outta there fast before I ate sumpn' else cuz I'm still wanting biscotti only I ain't got no biscotti. So I went on the Atkins site to read what up over there to feel connected to my fellow sufferers and they suggested if you are craving something sweet to eat something sour or spicy because it is the exact opposite and will turn your mind to a different taste all together. So I ate a kosher dill pickle and started talking to Kim online. Obviously the pickle wasn't working for me because I was feeling myself getting *****y and then I got really catty talking about some of our plastic surgery buddies. But they deserved it so it was all good! *evil grin*
Bottom line is that I went to bed still craving biscotti, but I didn't give into my craving from hell! Now for the good news, I got on the scale this morning and lost the half pound that I had left to lose from my husband's surgery. All five pounds gone now. Five pounds down feels better than eating biscotti any day of the week!
I hope you're Prouds are all as encouraging as mine,
Mary

That is such a strong primordial urge - good for you.
I'm trying a new recipe for dinner tonight - it's cooking right now and smells great from all the spices - it's a Morrocan stew. when DH comes home we're going to go walk a few miles in a local mall then come home to enjoy this stew over quinoa.

A salad instead of biscotti? That's certainly something to be proud of! The only reason I didn't have any biscotti this week is because I couldn't reach the box when I was at the grocery store. I love the dark chocolate dipped biscotti.
Congrats on the 5 pounds! That didn't take very long.

I wouldn't exactly call four days to lose one pound fast. But now I won't be able to lose anything cuz I'm weird. I have no problem losing weight that I gain, I just can't get any farther below that. My life sucks. Like I said, I'm going on that high fiber diet...I'm only eating dirt!
Mmmm...dark chocolate dipped biscotti. Where's my salad when I need it?

GO Mary! You describe very well about working thru cravings! If we each could only make ourselves WAIT - that is all it really is.
I am doing a similar thing: eating a veggie-filled, lean meatty meal B, L, S, and NOT eatong between meals. Just not doing it. I do feel hunger at times and make myself wait for at least 30 minutes before going for a healthy snack - more than half the time, I do not want the snack!
I think most of us eat off plan out of boredom, don't you????

I am a firm believer that cravings are something that MUST be waited out at all costs. And talking yourself through them is critical, I don't care if you have to do it out loud..."I'd rather have people look at me and think I'm crazy than fat!" Remember that?
I knew for a fact that it wasn't hunger. I knew it wasn't emotional eating, DH was being an angel. I wasn't wanting comfort food, I had a great healthy dinner that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was the plain and simple fact that I LOVE food and I love a good biscotti and I wanted one like crazy.
What seems to work best for me is, how will this make you feel thirty minutes after you eat it. I probably won't even remember eating it and then there would be hell to pay in the guilt trip department, and then would come the feellings of me being an absolute and utter failure and I'll just go ahead and eat my way into oblivion and just be fat again...oh yeah, it can get pretty dramatic up in here! Better to avoid the sugar in the first place and not have to go through alla that drama.
I rarely eat out of boredom anymore because I've developed mechanisms to handle that and they seem to be ingrained now. What will cause me cravings is if I SEE something on TV and then I want it. That usually goes away after the commercials over.
OMG, I drove by Popeye's the other day and smelled that chicken frying and I had to fight with the steering wheel to keep it from going in!

U done said a mouthful right there! I call that thinking thru to the guilt. We know we will feel remorseful, shameful, all around ****ty.
