Things we learn on the road to Good Health

On Tues May 6, 2009, I was watching Oprah, and Dr. Oz was on.  They had a segment, about losing weight, eating (11)lbs. of food a day, ( yeah! I know.) Well, anyway there was this study in England, where (2 or 3) couples camped out and ate what apes ate and lived like they did.

Everyday they had (11)lbs of RAW fruits,  vegetables and nuts etc., no salt, no sugar and drank water, for (12) days. They exercised, lived outside camping, did what apes do.  They lost weight! Now I like to eat, but even I would be hard pressed to eat (11)lbs of raw food. (maybe some meat and even steamed vegetables.) What caught my eye, and what I found interesting, that in just (10) days, they improved their cholesterol by 25% (that's 25% down.) In (10) days.

The things we learn on our way to good health.

I don't know about you, but I'm kind of fond of electricity, sleeping in my own bed and central air in my house when it's hot and humid and of course a roof over my head when it rains LOL.

I'm also not too fond of eating only raw foods although I know some people do eat a raw vegan diet. I prefer a mix of cooked and raw because while cooking destroys some nutrients in our food it also releases others which are not bioavailable to us when raw. I wonder if I could eat 11 lbs of food like this? I rarely use salad and sugar and we only drink water and tea in our house.

I'm not surprised that their cholesterol went down so quickly - there are only two sources of cholesterol - just like the ad says - the cholesterol your body makes naturally and cholesterol from animal products like milk and chicken etc. There is a very rare genetic mutation where some people make too much cholesterol naturally but the great majority of people make what they need naturally and when you add more from animal products.......well that's when you get high cholesterol levels and need to take medications. Also losing weight helps lower cholesterol as well - at least temporarily which is why Atkins type diets work.

Hey Twi, does this mean you're planning on moving into a tent and eating what the apes eat? Stargazing  All I can say is thank God my cholesterol is not high!
