Hi Big City Gal,
I do believe that olive oil is healthy - I hope I didn't give the impression that it wasn't. Butter OTOH is unfortunately isn't.
Your Dr. is right, you need some fat in your diet, however I'm not on a zero fat diet because there is no way you can eat vegetables, fruit, beans, legumes etc. and not get any fat - there is fat in almost everything excep****er. My diet has between 10-15% fat which is what the World Health Association recommends. This is how many healthy people around the world eat - healthy when they have good sanitation and a variety of food in their diet. There have been several variations of this diet (Drs. Ornish and Esselstyn are two examples) where they have shown reversal of heart disease in patients who have had multiple heart stents and/or bypasses and the patients were followed for 20 years. I don't have heart disease but I have a horrible family history so I do want to avoid problems.
I do agree with you 100% about avoiding processed foods and water instead of soda. As for hair loss - that is usually related to lack of protein in the diet.
