I had to call the doctor but at least he called me back personally.
Vitamin D - 48 (32-50 is normal)
total cholesterol -224 (down from 247)
HDL - 48
LDL - 158 (down from 170)
Blood sugar 107 - not the best but down a little
(weight was 236 last year now 209)
so the trend for the last year is DOWN!
If I keep doing Atkins and losing weight I hope the numbers get to 'great' before he makes me take statins!

It works for how I live - I am a bread fanatic and not have any really helps me "just say no"
My problem now is next week I'm going for a colonoscopy and the prep really messes up the Atkins. No flax seed for a week before (that changes my breakfast of a MIM)All white food for 2 days before - SO not Atkins- I think I may just have to do it and then get back on the program as fast as possible. I really don't want to imagine what the scale will do after this. The colon will be very empty but the water weight will be back. Maybe it will all even out.

Dear Truemans Mom:
I would like to, share with you, what my doctors tell me about, raising your HDL: The more active you are the better, and of course, the more weight you take off, even better.
My HDL has been as low as 35, but that was when I was a total couch potato, and the only moving i did was to eat and go to the bathroom. Now I am moving a lot, I hope in June when I see my doctor for my cholesterol it will be above 40.(last test showed 40)
Personnally I do not know how your cholesterol isn't worse, then it is. I could not be on Atkins., it's to high in fat. Have you had your doctor check your Lippoprotiens? They are a greater maker for telling, if you have CHD. It is better to have the Large Lippoprotiens then the small.Unforginately I have the small, which is not good. MY doctor told me I can change that , by lossing weight. I do not know, how small can change into large, but with weightloss, i guess you can. Can't remember what my total cholestrol was, but it seems to me it was somewhere between 198-200?
Twenty seven pounds down, and counting, Good Job

Actually, one of the reasons I decided to go on Atkins as opposed to simply a low carb diet is that the blood work often improves (counter intuitive to me too). I did check with my doc first. I have only be on the program since March 25, low carb before that for one year. I think the numbers will continue to improve as I get further along. I think that fact that I'm not eating processed food anymore has something to do with it, too, and the only reason I gave that up is you really can't do Atkins and eat junk, even convenient low fat, low cal junk.
I AM pretty much a couch potato except the yard work (1 1/2 hours of mowing each week) and home remodeling (4-5 hours each week) and walking the dogs (2-45 minute walks on the weekend) and I know I need to do more but my crappy knee acts up whenever I go too far. Again weight loss should help. Doc was not worried about the HDL since it was 48, more the other numbers, but I know they are all interrelated.
I will check with him about the Lippoprotiens and see if we can add that to the tests in 4 months. Thanks for the suggestion.
