weigh in day...

I've been eating on plan all week, and everything is going good. I didn't even cheat after that crappy date and all the car problems. So my friend drops me off at my doctors to weigh (over a mile from home, and yes I had to walk home, made it, but barely!) and I've GAINED 2.1 pounds this week! I don't know what to think. I'm gonna try and increase my water intake even more, and see if that helps. I havn't measured myself yet, dealing with phone calls from sunday, so I dont' know if thats changed at all. My friend says she can see the difference all through my waist, boobs, and arms, so maybe it's just that i'm loosing fat and gaining muscle? I wasn't expecting a huge loss like last week, but a couple pounds would have been nice. Hopefully next week is great, I'll be doing a lot more walking since there's not a very good bus system in my little town. Getting to and from school 30 miles away is going to be a problem though....but thats another worry...
I just measured, and thought I would share that I'm down 3.75 total inches this week, despite the gain, so I'm happy This makes 12.5 inches gone since I started measuring on 3/9/2009!! I've lost at least a little everywhere except my left knee (still the same) and my left calf actually went up .25". Weird.

Heather, I mentioned this before but I don't know if you saw it - but are you sensitve to salt? I know if I eat something salty I can easily add a couple of pounds of jus****er. The American Heart Association recommends limiting salt to 5% or less when you buy prepared foods. You can use lemon juice, tomato and wine to add a salty flavor when cooking instead of adding salt. It's amazing how it can fool the tongue into thinking you're eating something salty when there is none.

Hi Skylar,
I saw your post about this before, and ment to reply, but forgot. I'm scatterbrained sometimes. I am sensitive to salt, and I have had problems with edema in my legs since I was pregnant with my daughter (had preeclampsia) and it never went away. I don't add salt to the food I cook, havn't for years. When salt is required for a recipie, I never use as much as called for, and I use lite salt, has half the sodium of table salt. I'll try your ideas for salt substitues though, but I'm on a low carb eating plan, so adding lemon juice and tomatos add to the carb content. My edema has been really good for a couple weeks now, hardly swollen at all, even by the end of the day, so I don't think thats it.

Heather Sweetie, I realize that a weight loss this week would have been nice, but your body is only adjusting to what happened with your big water whoosh last week. With your history of edema, you are going to have to get used to these fluid retention swings that will make your scale totally unreliable as being an accurate instrument of showing your exact weight loss. You are doing so much better to take your measurements instead.
Think of it this way. Your 1/4 inch gain of fluid in your knee probably weighs 2.1 pounds!
Keep the faith girlee,
Mary
